With the events of September 11th 2001 Americans across the country have responded in record numbers and in record ways to show their patriotism and support of their police officers, firefighters and other emergency personnel. I write this to in no way bring down what they are doing or to minimize the great loss of lives our country has suffered, but to offer another take on the situation.
So what were you doing on September 10th and the weeks, months and years before these attacks?
-I don’t need to go out in search of a flag, I already had one up
-I did not need to drop what I was doing to donate blood, I gave a pint two weeks prior and have been on a regular basis
-I did not run to support the police and firefighters, I work with them everyday. Everyone of them has always been there for you 24/7 to do whatever it takes, no matter the cost, despite the fact they don’t even know you.
-I already support our men and women in the military. I have a lot of friends in the military, just check out my website, their pictures have been there for years.
-I already respect our flag and what it stands for. I stand for our national anthem at least twice a week before my baseball games.
And kudos everyone else out there.
-To the San Diego Padres ball club that fly the American flag and the POW/MIA flag in remembrance of our missing servicemen. They are not the only ball club that does this. Even the no name minor league team in my area has been doing it for years.
-To the eighty year old lady that has been dressed up in red white and blue to register voters before each election for the past 30 years.
These are just a few examples of businesses and individuals who have been showing their patriotism long before this tragic event. If any good comes out of all this, let it produce more 24/7 patriots.
Just something to think about
