THE SALOMONE TRIO

THE SALOMONE TRIO is a vocal ensemble, based in New York City, composed of sopranos Elissa Weiss, Marie Costanza and Carol Flamm.

Acclaimed for their exquisite blend, their rich, warm, silken voices and their intriguing theatricality, THE SALOMONE TRIO presents exciting, eclectic programs of Renaissance, Medieval and Jewish vocal music. Hailing from diverse yet complementary backgrounds, the trio formed after meeting at the New York Renaissance Festival, where they were selected to sing the music of Salomone Rossi, a 16th century Italian Jew, whom they later took as their namesake.

The three sopranos bring together a wealth of vocal and instrumental experience from opera, jazz, musical theatre and early music. Their programs are infused with the spontaneity of improvisation and the drama of story song, tied together with a rhythmic and joyful musicality. The distinctive combination of three solo-caliber soprano voices allows the group to explore a wide variety of rarely performed material. The group's vocal flexibility fills their singing with a multiplicity of colors and textures, keeping the audience constantly engaged.

THE SALOMONE TRIO's debut CD, Sacred and Profane, was released in September 1998 (on the Titanic label). The program includes Sephardic songs, French chansons, Hebrew motets, English madrigals, and a unique arrangement of a 13th-century sacred cantiga about the trials of a pregnant nun. The group's approach to making music blurs the boundaries between religious and secular music, and opens the heart of the listener to the celebration of life within each piece.
