Note: SCID (Severe Combined Immuno Deficiency) is a double recessive gene carried by some Arabians. It has no adverse effect on horses that are carriers. Foals that receive the gene from BOTH parents will die before they reach 4 months of age as a result of having no immune system. If two horses that are SCID carriers are bred together, there is a 1 in 4 chance that the foal will be Affected and die, a 1 in 4 four chance that the foal will not inherit the gene at all, and a 50% chance that the foal will be a Carrier, but suffer no negative health effects itself.
