Welcome to the Sapp Family History

Archive

What is the Archive and what can it do for my research?

The advent of the computer and the information highway, (World Wide Web) has provided us with an opportunity never before available in our history. It is now possible for millions of people, from the comfort of their home, to access vast amounts of information that has been digitized and put out on the web.  The problem is that much of the information is not yet available.   This is our start for the Sapp Family.

The goal of this Archive is to be a Depository for Documents and Verified Information relating to the Sapp Family which is now located in the many different Global, National, State and County Archives and Courthouses.  By bringing all this information together in a single location, ( the Web and this Archive Site) we may finally have the combined data to answer the major questions still unknown concerning this Family.

Where is the Archive and who maintains it? What does it cost?

The archive is located within my personal five megs of servers space on America On Line. This area is accessible to anyone who has access to the World Wide Web.  As for the cost, It's Free. I only ask that you contribute to the Archive so that the countless hours I have spent designing and maintaining this site will not have been in vane.

As for me, my hobbies are Model Trains, Genealogy, and Computers.  I am a self taught computer programmer and three years ago, I became interested in the history of my ancestors.  Computers and Genealogy, what a combination.  It didn't take long to see the potential of combining the two, so here I am.

Since I started the Sapp Family History site eleven months ago, I have been overwhelmed with hundreds of request from individuals asking me to provide them with information about their line.  As I stated earlier, I am new to Genealogy and just like all of you, trying, to find the answer as to who the parents are of my verified ancestor, and from where was he born.  I have tried to answer all the requests by researching the books I have, but have been able to help only a few.  I know my line, but very little of the other lines.  These inquiries have taken all my free time and so I have had very little time to devote to the Sapp Family History site.

The solution I believe is in identifying all the early Sapp's (pre 1776), and following their migration to other areas.  As the facts on these individuals come together I strongly feel many of our daunting questions will be answered.

This is a very big project and will require the combined efforts of all of us researching this Surname.  Only by everyone devoting a part of their research time to gathering every document with a Sapp Surname and submitting it to the archive can this project work.  And NO!, I am not gathering this information to write a book and neither should you use this info for such.  This is for the betterment of all involved in Sapp Family Name.

This is my hobby, my quest.  Let us all receive and cherish the good feelings you get from assisting others, as well as searching out the unanswered questions about this family we all have.

Robert;

I'm not sure we've ever corresponded but I'm certainly happy to see someone doing this page.  I'll certainly try to support this fine effort.  I've been publishing the Sapp Family Newsletter since 1988 and haven't missed an issue.  It is filled with 12 pages of just Sapp Queries and materials.  Just to give you some idea of what we've been up to I'll attach a sample.  I did note some of our members are also on line with you.

Sincerely,
Mitchell E. Sapp

Sapp Mailing List ....... A list for those researching the Sapp Surname.

What is a Mailing list?  A mailing list is a list of many different people who share a common interest.  A way to send information to all the people who are members of the list with a single E-Mail.  You have something to say or would like to know then send one E-Mail to the list and a duplicate will be forwarded on to all members of the list.  Likewise you will receive duplicate E-Mails of what other members send out.

There are two ways in which to receive the E-Mails sent to the list:

1. The "mail mode", which means that you will receive every posting made to SAPP mailing list as a separate e-mail.

2. The "digest mode", which means several postings are combined and sent to you together as a single large message.

If you get a lot of E-Mails then I suggest you might want to use the digest mode so your mail box does not get cluttered.

To subscribe in the "mail mode" Just send an E-Mail with the word "subscribe" in the message area to SAPP-L-request@rootsweb.com   Note: You may need to enter something in the Subject area before the E-Mail can be sent.  I usually enter "subscribe" here also.

To subscribe in the "digest mode" Just send an E-Mail with the word "subscribe" in the message area to SAPP-D-request@rootsweb.com   Note: You may need to enter something in the Subject area before the E-Mail can be sent.  I usually enter "subscribe" here also.

If you have questions about the Sapp Mailing List then E-Mail ....Bill at : wbouline@newnorth.net

Submitting Data To The Archive

To submit your line...

Due to memory restrictions at this time, please restrict your submissions to the following:

1.  Only individuals born prior to 1810.
     -or-
2.  The first two generations of your line.

Please be sure to add all birth, marriage and death dates as well as the locations known. It is very important to include these dates and locations as well as the places and times of migration from Country to Country, Colony to Colony, State to State, County to County, and Town to Town. What happened with the family is just as important as Names and Dates.  Don't forget your sources......

As time goes by and I locate more server space we will expand into the late1800's.
The pre 1800's is where we need the most work done at this time.

To submit Documents or Published Listings on the Sapp Surname...

Due to memory restrictions at this time, please restrict your submissions to documents prior to 1810.

Census Data or Lists, Tax Lists, Military Records, Probate Records, Church Records, Cemetery Records, Land Grants, Birth-Marriage-Death Records, ect.  Any document placing an individual at a certain place in time.

It is very important to include the Location of the original document,  State, County, Book-Page and Line number.  If Published List, don't forget the Book Title, Author, Published Date and Page Number.  You know the drill, good documented verification!!

As time goes by and I locate more server space we will expand into the late1800's.
The pre 1800's is where we need the most work done at this time.
