NOTE: 1. Henry HUPTON
Henry was a foreman in the coal Mines as was his father before him. James remembers his Dad telling stories about following his grandfather as a little boy, into the mines to keep the furnace going to keep the gas out of the mine, before the use of fans. Henry lost his job in about 1857, took his dog and left to look for another and was never heard from again.
Second Generation
2. Hiram James HUPTON was born 3 Feb 1850 in Sutton Lancashire, England the 1881 census has him born in Tunstall, Staffordshire, England. He died 3 Mar 1940 in Albia, Iowa and was buried in Oakview Cemetery there.
Hiram married Sarah Ann BARKER, daughter of James BARKER and Ann APPLETON on 27 Dec 1868 in Liverpool, Lancashire, England. Sarah was born 23 Sep 1846 in Smithwick, Stafford, England, She died Apr 1935 in Albia, Iowa.
They had the following children:

Hiram came to the U.S. and to What Cheer, Iowa in January of 1887 he sent for his wife and children, they arrived in What
Cheer the 1st of June the same year.
Hiram became a citizen of the U.S. in Apanoose County Iowa in 1896.
Hiram couldn't read or write so he always had someone do it for him.
