| Aset or Isis? | She
was known in antiquity as the Goddess of Ten Thousand
Names to most of the ancient world. To the Egyptians
where she developed, she was known as Aset -- the throne.
The Mother of the falcon God. Aset was a shapeshifter in myth, and as she spread across the world, she certainly lived up to her title. She became known across most of Europe, and her cult was one of the most popular in ancient times. Even today, Isis is still worshipped all over the world. Aset, through her transformation into Isis, has out-survived most empires in the world today. What is it about this deity that calls to so many people, that they feel compelled to follow her, even in this modern time? This is a brief history of Aset, who is the "Egyptian Isis" in the sense that this website is going to discuss and review information on her previous to the Graeco-Roman era. Although I was not going to, after contemplation, I felt it would be wrong to leave out her transformation into the Goddess of Ten Thousand Names, so I have included a section on Isis in Greece and Rome. |
