Course Comments for Island Pines

(formerly known as Indian Pines)

The worst course on this entire website in my opinion, although I will admit that there are about a half dozen that I haven't played yet. I played here in summer 2001 in my continuing quest to one day say that I played them all. This course has three sets of tees ranging from 5180 yards for the ladies to 6440 yards for the men. There's water on nearly every hole, mostly lateral water hazards that parallel some reasonably narrow fairways. When I played in summer 2001 it had about the worst fairways I've ever seen on any Florida course. Large patches of crab grass and weed patches had invaded many of the fairways especially on the front nine. The greens were nothing to brag about either. I will say the back nine was in a little better shape. For those of you who think that the Club Med Sandpiper has deteriorated over the years, I've been to the Sandpiper recently. This place is worse. We also experienced some extremely slow playing seniors (a 6-some, 3 couples!) on this course that couldn't care less who was behind them. It literally would take them a half hour and 12 shots to reach the green. We finally got fed up and got in the cart and made a bee-line to the tee ahead of them. I think I paid in excess of $20 to play 18 here and to be honest with you there are at least 6 courses on this list where you can pay in the range of $17 to $20 that are alot better deal. The Fairwinds (closeby) is a good example.

The locals call this the "Goat ranch" for good reason. Usually the fees drop to under $10 during the summer though.

I'm told this golf course now has a new name. Anybody know what it is?

It is now called Island Pines, but I see from the title above that you already know that.

We played this course in January. It was the slowest round of golf we played. The course was boring ...except when golf balls shot dangerously by from neigbouring fairways. The price is too high for such a poor course and in trying to generate more revenue, the proshop tees off too many people creating a back log on the course and an unpleassand round. We would never play this course again.

Played Feb 2008. Green fees for two including tax $89.46. We were not impressed. The starter sent us out on the back behind a very slow foursome. When we came around, the front was starting league play-- so he sent us to play the back a second time-- this time behind a very, very slow twosome. The course had lots of hidden water and was not well marked. Fairways didn't have much grass I wouldn't recommend this course.
