Course Comments for the Club Med Sandpiper (formerly known as The Sinners Course) Before Thanksgiving 2001 I hadn't played this course in about 7 years and had read alot of course comments on the internet by various golfers who've been in the area alot longer than I that this course deteriorated over the years while it was owned by Club Med especially the last 20 years. Although I wasn't around this area 20 years ago to notice the change I have to say that I didn't think it deteriorated in the 7 years since I previously played it. I thought it was in pretty good condition. The greens were in better than average shape, (a little soft and slow) and because of some recent rains a few of the fairways were a bit mushy. But all in all it was a fairly nice experience. The course has 3 sets of mens' tees ranging from 6888 to 6007 yards. Quite a few of the fairways are lined with older homes that had obviously been built many years ago. Most of the par 4's and 5's are straight ahead shots on this course; not many doglegs that I can recall. This course has a little more undulation in its fairways than many of the flat Florida courses that I'm used to playing. I played with a coupon for about $ 22 in late November. Some golfers I played with had noticed a 2-for-1 deal in The Stuart News that got them on for about $11 each. Though I wouldn't put this course in a category with the 5 best public courses on the Treasure Coast (in my opinion): Lost Lake, Eagle Marsh, PGA South, Ballantrae and Abacoa, it's definitely nicer than any municipals most of us may play back home. I would play this course again anytime for that price, especially that close to in-season. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the most recent comment. The course was pretty boring with lots of parallel fairways which also makes it a bit dangerous. We found quite a number of golf balls on our fairways coming from other fairways. We had to pick up and clean the ball on most shots and the golf balls were plugged on many shots because the course was soggy even though we haven’t had that much rain lately. The course wasn’t bad for the price but it isn’t a course one would rush out to play. Posted by: jay preston on: Feb 04, 2006 at: 19:24 I played Club Med last week. The greens were the worst I've ever seen, hardly any grass on them. The course used to be a good test of golf in excellent condition. However, I doubt that I'd play it again. A five hour round also. Posted by: Marty on: Apr 17, 2006 at: 07:54 Was it that bad? We go to Club Med Sandpiper every year and we play that golf course as a warm up for the better courses around or for some extra holes in the afternoon. It used to be in pretty bad condition but since the last 3-4 years, we were surprised everytime by the fair shape and good maintenance of the course (compared to what it was before). I was there in Nov 2005, greens were very slow, nothing close to bald, and fairways were okay! Obviously, conditions have changed! Not the best layout in the area, but when you're from the cold north like we are, you need an easy track to get your swing back before you take on the more exciting courses nearby... Posted by: Linda on: Feb 22, 2008 at: 12:06 Played 2/16/08 with a coupon green fees were $49. Don't waste your money-- we thought the course was boring and in terrible shape. We were also disappointed in the Club Med seafood buffet night. |
