Abbeville Co, SC - Enslavement DataInformation and Queries on Enslaved African AmericansAdditional data added: 2 April 2002. Three types of listings are available and needed: Abbeville Co, SC data and queries are the primary focus. However, from Calhoun Falls you simply cross the Savannah River and you'll find yourself in Elbert Co, GA. Prior to 1916 McCormick County didn't exist, so Edgefield Co, SC was Abbeville's neighbor to the southeast. My personal research is leading back to Edgefield, so although I don't have many Edgefield entries, they are most welcome along with those of Elbert Co, GA. I hope to revise this page and check on the validity of the current email addresses for inquirers. So please continue to submit data and queries. The information on enslaved Africans has been provided by genealogical researchers from wills and other documents. Queries have been submitted primarily by African Americans who are trying to gather information on their enslaved ancestors. Their research to-date has directed them to pursue the records of particular slave owning families. The data and queries are presented alphabetically by the surname of the owner immediately followed by an approximate or specific time period. The earliest information is for the 1780s. Data and queries are included on the same pages in alphabetical order.
