  MAUSOLEUM PHOTOS

AND

RECENT WORK COMPLETED IN 1998

Below are some photos taken during our Memorial Day weekend visit in May 1998.  Driving East from Bellflower we approach and then turn right and head toward the cemetery  along the road where Ernst built the farm for his son, Johann Wilhelm Schowengerdt in the early 1880s; it was felt that Johann's ailing health might improve out in this pleasant countryside...and indeed it did as Johann lived until 1912.

The picture below shows how the South side of the Mausoleum had sunk and how we stabilized the structure.
Refinished Interior Walls
Headstones of "Ernst" and his first wife, "Elizabet (sic) Huckreide," still need to be cleaned and properly mounted on the wall in their original positions. Ernst and Elizabet married in 1844. Elizabet died in 1886 and Ernst married Sarah Shellorz Wightman in 1887 and moved to his new home in Warrenton. These headstones need to be properly mounted on the wall West of the graves.
The paint on the door and windows has greatly deteriorated over the past ten years; although the door has been repainted it is defective and needs to be replaced. The shutters have been repainted but need to be eventually replaced as they are very fragile.
Here you can see the headstones of my GrandFather, John William S., my Grandmother, Karoline Marie Strack S. , and my Aunt Maggie S. I never knew my Grandfather or Aunt Maggie as they both died before I was born.
