Gold Awards We have had the following girls receive Gold Awards. Their projects are described below:
Katydid (completed July 1999) After attending the Wider Opportunity, Natural Science in the Tetons, Katydid decided to base her Gold Award project on environmental education. She organized environmental activities for several community celebrations including the Tule Fog Fete sponsored by the Great Valley Museum and Earth Day in the Park sponsored by the city of Modesto. In addition, she organized and held an enviromental education day for children called Operation E.A.R.T.H. designed to heighten awareness of their surroundings. One of the hightlights was having a local junior college biologist run sessions which offered fun hands-on river exploration activities. Environmental education resources were also collected and distributed to local grade schools in an attempt to promote environmental activites at younger ages. Katydid received her Gold Award at a special Troop Gold Award Ceremony held at the McHenry Mansion, a local historical landmark.
