Following is a picture of the SCS Center. The Center is now on two floors and consists of some 3,200 square feet with a full complement of laboratory equipment and a staff of 9. The labs are very well equipped and any specialized services or equipment we don't have are contracted for from either universities or corporations.
A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF SCS
Since 1978 SCS has played a leading role in proving the dogma of hopelessness false. Spinal cord injury can be cured - if the proper effort is made.
The SCS record is clear. It is a very good one because the organization depends only upon citizen support, from the injured, their families, and their friends, not luck, wheelchair stardom, or government. Supporting cure is a job we must do ourselves.
Each component of the SCS program is crucial. Goal - directed cure research is the centerpiece. It is supported by our membership and chapter network (the worlds largest) coordinated by the monthly Newsletter. We also provide services through the Data and Referral System. All those truly interested in cure should subscribe to the Newsletter, which reports the latest progress on a regular basis.
To the uninformed curing spinal cord injury looks like a big job, almost "impossible". But so have many other things in the past, moon rockets, atomic power, and once upon a time probably the wheel.
Chas E. Carson, Ph.D.
