A Family History Summary...I would like to briefly explain the Abbruscato family history, to give you a better understanding of how we all fit into this puzzle. The Abbruscato family originates from a small agricultural town named Baucina, located in the Palermo province of Sicily. I've been able to find genealogical records in the town dating back to 1817. The family origins prior to 1817 are unknown to me, but my research is an ongoing process. We are all descendants of Francesco Abbruscato, he was my great-great-great-great grandfather. He was employed as a stone mason, a field of employment that was passed down for a number of generations. I'm still in the process of learning more about Francesco. The wife of Francesco was named Francesca Contino. We are all connected to Filippo Abbruscato as well, he is the son of Francesco. I discovered Francesco on the marriage certificate of his son Filippo. I'm in the process of writing to the church in Baucina in order to learn more about Francesco, and to hopefully take our ancestry into the 1700's. The wife of Filippo Abbruscato is Giuseppa Cirrincione, her family name is a common one in Baucina, but I am close to finding records of her parents and siblings. I've met a woman named Diane Cirrincione, she is also doing genealogical research in Baucina. We're trying to figure out how we are related. I need to explain something before I continue, as it may get confusing. My great-grandfather Giorgio "George" Abbruscato married his first cousin Rosa "Rose" Abbruscato. This information is important because it is necessary to know the different family lines. Many of us are descended from Mariano Abbruscato(my great-great grandfather), and his brother Giuseppe Abbruscato(my great-great grandfather). So all of us who are descendants of Giorgio and Rosa Abbruscato are directly descended from the brothers Mariano and Giuseppe. Hopefully that is not too confusing. It may become more confusing now. Mariano married Giuseppa Greco and Giuseppe married her sister Rosa Greco. All of us descended from Giorgio and Rosa are connected to the Greco family in two ways. I'm also researching the Greco family, and the history of this family is quite fascinating. The father of Giuseppa and Rosa Greco was named Giorgio Greco, he was employed as a civil servant in Baucina. All of the records of our Greco ancestors indicate that they were civil servants, in fact a Giuseppe Greco was once the Mayor (Sindaco) of Baucina. Giorgio married a woman named Rosa Cuccia, another common surname in Baucina, and one that I'm actively researching. (If you would like to know more about the history of the Greco family click here.) I hope this page has given you a better understanding of how we're all connected. If you want a more detailed look into the Abbruscato family go to the Family Trees Page ![]() |
