What about Tithing ?
<< on tithing on offering.....this church still requires 10% for God plus offerings,,,,please tell me
Hello, Thanks for your questions I can see a lot is on your mind. It seems you have a good feel for what is going on in institutional religion. So many practices, traditions and rituals are imposed in order to perpetuate the status quo. Unfortunatly Tithing long ago became an excellent teaching to both instill fear in people for not doing it and secondly a good way to plan budgets based on a known income base.
1) where does it explain in the word that the old covenant came over to the new testament?
Collosians 2 is a good place to start, we are free in Christ from the written ordinances of the Law. We should give with a willing heart not a compelled heart based on fear of Law. And giving does not always mean giving of money. In Romans 12:1 we are told to offer our bodies, our lives as LIVING sacrifices to God. This is the core message on giving to God. He does not need anything from us. God is God. He doesn't use dollar signs he uses hearts to fulfill his purpose. Give to the needy, give to your family, give to God's children in anyway you can. But the institutional "Church" must go on and so the doctrine will also go right along with it. In short it never said that tithing was to continue in the New Covenant. If you will remember the Jews were commanded to tithe of many things not just money.
2) is tithing mentioned in the new testament?
Yes, BUT, Only in connection with Old Covenant(Testament) practices. Not once do you read about a Christian giving a tithe.
3) offering is all I could find as the woman gave all she had was 2 pennies
Amen and again I refer you to Romans 12:1. Also the examples of collection for the saints were specific instances of relief for a specific purpose it was never a specific event to be done every week for no specific purposes.
4) are we to let our bills go so that we can help support the church as our pastor says all their bills are paid and the church is debt free.
Good observation, I've even heard pastors say you are stealing from God if you do not tithe. That is truly sad. This goes back to the error in perceiving the "Church" as a corporate entity rather than an assembly of individual disciples. We must pay our bills. I don't read of an assembly/Church being in debt in the New Testament
5) we have needs sitting in our church no jobs, no food, broken marriages, fornication going on christians as the women say are living with men who are not their husbands and having babies with different fathers
A good sermon on "giving" is always ready for the Church when the "offering" is down. But as you say..what about when the Love for God is down? ie no jobs,no food, broken marriages, babies left and right. And yet they preach on giving more. Are they concerned about their income perhaps?
6) a family who is controlling the church and has done so for many years and out of the month comes ugly hurting words to church members.
This does not sound like a productive situation.
7) Help tell me what are we to do when the church people consist of the same family as everyone is moving away and not even coming to church////
Here is what I had to do: FLEE to Christ He is our refuge and comforter. I had to leave institutional religion. It is not part of God's design and plan. Search the Word and Truth will be revealed. You and your family may need some time away from the tradtions. Time to search for Truth. I have experienced the very situation you speak of with a single family who most the time "started" the congregation hanging on to ultimate control. It can be really bad for spiritual growth.
hope this helps, if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.
In God's love,
Greg |
