UNION PACIFIC 1995 OKLAHOMA EXCURSIONS

The Central Oklahoma Railfan Club (CORC), now the Oklahoma Rail Museum (ORM), sponsored an excellent weekend of excursion operations in 1995.  On November 11th, two excursions were operated from Oklahoma City's historic Union Station.  The morning train operated to Shawnee; the afternoon train operated to El Reno.  Sunday, the 12th saw a day of operation to Enid.   "They said it could never be done; that the Union Pacific would never agree to operate over 10 mile per hour trackage, but we did it and we covered our costs plus," according to event organizer Tom Elmore.  Elmore and the CORC was vindicated, years prior to the successful start of Oklahoma's Heartland Flyer and turned a profit that helped to start the Oklahoma Rail Museum.
