STORIES

The latest installments of my stories appear in the online magazine Sabledrake, dedicated to covering fantasy and science fiction game reviews and fiction.  Click on any of the links below to go directly to the stories, listed in published order:

  • "Divided But Not Conquered" - Sabledrake August 2002 (chronologically, framing sequence follows "Vows and Vengeances" but the main body of the story begins shortly before "Storms in the Soul" and ends concurrent with events in "Black Hearts and Broken Dreams")

Some mini-stories are available exclusively on this site.  These are mainly nice character pieces, but lack enough actual game-play basis to adequately qualify for Sabledrake.

  • "Women of Weaponry" - the efforts to assemble the Sisters of Silicon subteam Women of Weaponry

For about a year, I ran a print "fanzine" called Sisterhood, which highlighted female players and personas in Play-By-Mail games.  I wrote two short-short stories for the newsletter, which I am reprinting below with permission of Advanced Gaming Enterprises.  They're flashback stories, so they can be read at any point, just click below:

  • "Battle For Mars" - written by my father John C. Muir and commissioned for SISTERHOOD, chronicling the first US vs. UK game and introducing Allison Chaynes and the Sisters of Silicon subteam the Ladies of Metal.  Reprinted in serial form in PAPER MAYHEM with permission of SISTERHOOD.  Now unavailable in print, I've chosen to make it available to the public via my site.  My father's been in the PBM field over 20 years and this was his first gaming fiction piece, an excellent piece of work.

Some past history chronicled in the Sabledrake stories are derived from tales first told in the now inactive magazine Paper Mayhem.  At the time, I gave up all rights to those stories ("Battle For Mars" being an exception because it was agreed upon as a reprint) and I do not know of anywhere that back issues can be obtained.  The names and issues of my Paper Mayhem stories are listed here for bibliographic sake, and in chronological order.  I've done my best to integrate the background into the stories that have been subsequently released.  Things are in the works to make these stories available to CTF2187 fans everywhere, and I will keep you posted as things happen.

  • "Trials of Friendship" - Paper Mayhem Issue #64

  • "Test of Loyalty" - Paper Mayhem Issue #55

  • "Blackheart's Ride" - Paper Mayhem #81

  • "Sisters and Secrets, Part One" - Paper Mayhem #72

  • "Sisters and Secrets, Part Two" - Paper Mayhem #73

Shannon Muir's Tales of CTF2187 is a supplement to fiction stories about the game published with the permission of Advanced Gaming Enterprises, but is not an official site for the game nor an official stance on game role-playing.  Part of the fun comes from the players interacting and interpreting the universe in different ways.
