My arranging teacher Ray Brown (trumpet) once said: "You
can write anything for the saxophone---eventually they (players)
will learn how to play it". There are many great sites with
information pertaining to the sax, I have included links to some
of those sites and have added a few things that I hope are helpful.
Shawn's tips:
1. The easiest way to achieve superb fingering is: Keep fingers over the keys--especially the pinkies over the G# and Eb/C keys. (should be touching lightly) This prevents the fingers from flying all over the place. Use a mirror and see for yourself.
2. Long tones produce great tone: Nothing else needs to be said---play slow ballads
3. Altissimo perfection: Play a slow ballad as high as you can, in tune and softly. If you can do this, you can manage a screaming funk tune.
