Bonhams 2006 Sale Information:
Three Original Manuscripts by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
On 28 March 2006 the estate of Dame Jean Conan Doyle, the last surviving child of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, offered three of her father's original handwritten manuscripts for auction to benefit various charities. The sale was held at Bonhams New Bond Street saleroom in London.

The following manuscripts were offered for sale.
Lot 70: "Brigadier Gerard at Waterloo" (1902)
- Includes the paired short stories "The Adventure of the Forest Inn" and "The Adventure of the Nine Prussian Horsemen"
- 79 pages; signed "Arthur Conan Doyle, Undershaw, Hindhead"
- 1 large and detailed reproduction of the opening page from "The Adventure of the Forest Inn"

Lot 71: "How Brigadier Gerard lost his ear" (1902)
- 42 pages; signed "A. Conan Doyle, Undershaw, Hindhead"
- 1 large and detailed reproduction from the last page showing text and Doyle's signature

Dame Jean Conan Doyle (21 Dec. 1912 – 18 Nov. 1997) was Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's last surviving child. She enlisted in the Royal Air Force in 1938 and was the highest ranking woman in the RAF when she retired in the late 1960s. Her estate is selling this material to benefit the following charities: the RAF Benevolent Fund, the Not Forgotten Association, the RAF Association, the Elizabeth Finn Trust (formerly The Distressed Gentlefolks Aid Association), Help the Hospices, and the Royal Star and Garter Home for Disabled Sailors Soldiers and Airmen.
This was Sale 13809 - Printed Books and Manuscripts including the Hooke Folio and it was held at Bonhams New Bond Street in London on 28 March 2006.
