Looking for information on Samuel Sheldon (b. March 21,1805 d:May 13, 1887)and his wife Sarah. They had a son John Sheldon (b. July 08,1842 d: October 27, 1892). John married Jane Garwood. Their children were: Sam, John, Sadie, Mammie, Lydia, Henrietta and Henry (twins) (b.May 17, 1861) The last children were born in Dubuque, Iowa.

Justus Sheldon (b. 1809) is in the 1850 Census for Cuyahoga Co., Oh Census. His wife was Charlotte Reublin (b. abt 1811). Their children were: Isaac b. 1829, Catharine (my g-g-grandmother) b. 1833, Mary (Polly) b. 1835, Claudine (Clarinda) b. 1838, Martin b. 1939, George b. 1843, Jane b. 1848 and Eliza b. aft. 1850. I have information abt. Isaac and his whereabouts bet. 1850 and 1870. Justus was the son of Stephen D. and Mary Field Sheldon. i would like to know more about this family and also to share what I have.

Josiah and James R.
My great grandfather, James R. Sheldon was born in Potsdam, NY in 1832. On his census records he listed his father as being born in VT. There is a Josiah Sheldon born in Bakersfield, VT 1789. A 1838 census of Potsdam, NY lists a Josiah Sheldon with 5 family members. 1850 census does not list a Josiah in that county and James is listed with several other young men as sawyers. In 1849 a Josiah Sheldon bought land in WI and in 1867 James moved to WI close by.

Ella Martin married Harlow Martin. they lived in NY and later moved to VT. Ella was born in Highgate Vt, according to the funeral record. (according to a census report she was born in Canada. ?? Daniel Martin was born in Jericho VT. Daniel was her father. Her mother was born in Canada. Olivia Vancaunat (spelling may be wrong as we cannot make out the last 3 letters) Ella and Harlow had 3 children that we know for sure. Thelma, Lottie and Mildred. Lottie had 1 son Carlton Willard. Lottie married Steven Eugene Sheldon. Lottie had married 2 or 3 other times..possibly 2 times to a Tony Petrello (possibly misspelled) I do not know the other marriage. Calrton had 4 wives. I am searching for the family of William Sheldon who was born abt 1828 in Canada. Census data states his father was born in New York and his mother born in Canada. He married Margarett Kellar and they immigrated first to Wisconsin in about 1856, then to Kalkaska Co., MI around 1870. William is recorded as being Sheriff of Kalkaska Co. in 1871. Around 1890 they went to Lewis Co., WA where Margarett died in 1891 (I do not know when or where William died). My mother isn't very forthcoming with information. I was born in July 1966 in the Philipines so William Sheldon (my birth father, derived William cause people called him Bill)was there around that time. Actually he was there for about 9 years. He was a civilian Airplane Power Plant Engineer working for the US Gov. I think the company he worked for was Pratt and Whitney. That's all I know and it's been impossible finding out anything else about him. I am searching for the Hon. Thomas Sheldon because he was mentioned in the obituary of my g-g-g-grandmother, Maranda Olmsted. Maranda was born in Huron Cty., Ohio; and came to Detroit in the year 1818. Mrs. Thomas Sheldon became acquainted with the little gir; and with the advice of her husband the child was adopted as one of the family. Maranda was even married in the home of Thomas Sheldon in 1833. The obituary does not say what happened to Maranda's own parents. She was only 3-4 years old when the Sheldons adopted her. Conn.) and Mary Cannon (b. Ireland). Russell and Catherine had 5 children: Elizabeth Josephine (b. 1894- NYC), Russell Henry (b.1896- NYC) John (Jack) (b.1898- NYC) Agnes (b & d. 1901- NYC) Mary (b. & d. 1902- NYC) Catherine Sheldon died in 1902 and Russell Sheldon died in 1903 and are buried in the Hughes-Bracken-Sheldon plot in Calvary Cemetery in Woodside, NY. The three surviving children lived with their maternal grandparents in NYC: John and Ann (Bracken) Hughes. Don't know what happened to them after the 1920's? John and Sara Carey Sheldon or Shelden
I have run into a brick wall. My great-grandparents were John and Sara Carey Sheldon. I have seen the name spelt Shelden also. In the 1850,1860,1870 they were in the census of Oneida County, N.Y. In the towns of vienna,Paris and Florence. Their children were as follows. Persey or Pierce,John(he died of disease in the civil war)Elizebeth,Asa, Emeline, Sirilla,William Newton,Daniel Oliver and Fannie. I have tried most every thing that I can think of to find who John and Sara's parents were. I think John was a tennet farmer and laborer. He also served in the civil war. If Sara's parents were Jane and Daniel Carey, which are listed in the Sheldon Family, how do I prove or disprove it? If it helps any sometime after 1870 the family moved west to Nebraska but are listed as living separtly. Most records have been destroyed by fire or time. Are their any decendents out there? I am researching a Sarah Sheldon who was born 1829/1830 in England. She married a William Gray in England and they immigrated to US about 1850 and lived in Ohio where their six children were born. They are: Jane M. born 1852, Lionel Madison b. 1855, John b. 1858, Robert b. 1860, William b. 1861 and Albert b. 1867. Sarah Sheldon Gray died at Star Furnace, Kentucky in April 1881. Looking for Eliza Sheldon's parents and sibilings. She was born in Ireland and married Phillip Norton on October 4, 1848 in Cohasset, Norfolk, Mass. Marriage Index in the NEHGS books - Massachusetts Vitals pre 1850. According to the 1870 census (pg. 536, 6 th ward, line 5-11) in Omaha, Nebraska she was 41 years old (b. 1828) Their children are: Frank b. 1851 NY, James b. 1854 NY, Gusty b. 1856 IL., Willie b. 1859 IA, Brenda b. 1861 IA. Phillip Norton is listed as a railroad worker. Phillip and Eliza were listed on their son James Norton's marriage listing on Omaha, Nebraska January 25, 1876 in Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska Marriage book 6, page 302. Any help find clues on Eliza Sheldon's family would be appreciated!!!

Frank "Will" Sheldon
My paterrnal great grandmother (Clara Miller) was originally married to a man she met when they both worked in Chicago in vaudeville at the Orpheum Theatre. His name was Frank "Will" Sheldon. They were married in Chicago on the 1880's I believe. Sheldon disappeared (we do not know what happened to him), Clara was now alone and pregnant. A predicament for a young woman in Chicago over 100 years ago. As I am told, she met a kind man named Jefferson Wheeler. The marraige to Sheldon was annulled, and Wheeler and Clara married and moved to Iowa to farm. Clara's eldest son, Frederic Robert Wheeler (my grandfather) is Frank Sheldon's biological son. The truthe was withheld from Fred until he was a young man. He was taken by his step-father to Chicago to see the marriage license of Sheldon and Clara Miller, and the annullment papers, to reassure him that he was legitimate." Fred chose to keep this information from his only son (my father: Robert Wheeler). My father was informed after his father died. He then chose to not tell his own children. Some years ago, some distant relatives from California spilled the beans at a dinner. One of my Aunts has done research on our Sheldon connections, but reached a dead end. She found out he was born in Indiana from the marriage license of Miller and Sheldon. It is also believed that he worked in the Iron Range in California in the 30's.

I have a good hunch I might be a descendant of Josiah Sheldon born in 1789, who was a descendant of Isaac. I have reached a dead end on the paper trail and would like to compare my y-DNA with a known male descendant. Justus, #10077, b. 1809, was married to Charlotte Rueblin. They had, among others, a daughter named Catherine. She married Henry Schnell/Snell 1851. They had 4 children by 1860 when Henry disappeared/died on a trip away from home. The children were William James "Jim", George, John and Effie. William James was my great-grandfather. I would like to fine out more. Henry is a "brick wall." He was on the Ohio Census, 1850 as 22 years of age and from NY. I would also like to find out more about Catherine's family.
