Sherborn Historical Commission
The Sherborn Historical Commission is part of town government. The Commission's most important goal is the preservation of the community's historic places. The Historical Commission works toward this goal by planning for and implementing programs for the identification, evaluation and protection of the community's historic resources. The Historical Commission works in cooperation with other municipal agencies to insure that the goals of historic preservation are considered in planning for future development of the community. Sherborn Historical Commission works with the Board of Selectmen, Planning Board, Historic District Commission and other town agencies. The Historical Commission also works with local groups whose interests involve history or historical preservation, including private organizations such as Sherborn Historical Society. Finally it is the Historical Commission's mandate to be the local municipal watchdog for state and federal preservation agencies, alerting them to local preservation issues. One of the most important tools toward that goal is the Sherborn Community-wide Comprehensive Historic Assets Survey, which identifies historically significant properties, landscapes and outbuildings built prior to 1960, as well as historic landscapes. The Historic Assets Survey is available to the general public at the Sherborn Public Library. Several books on Sherborn history are also available at the library. Sherborn Historical Commission's monthly meetings are open to the public. To obtain information about Sherborn's historic assets, please contact the Historical Commission via mail at Sherborn Town Hall. The Historical Commission currently consists of the following:
