Black Welsh Mountain Sheep are a small dual purpose breed that provides excellent mild mutton and a completely black, dense, durable fleece. The Black Welsh Mountain Sheep is the only sheep with true black wool. They are an excellent addition to a spiners flock. Black Welsh are small and easy to handle and are ideal for farms where their hardiness, good mothering and feed efficiency are significant assets. Rams are horned and ewes are polled. They make a perfect cottager's sheep.

Here in North America Black Welsh Mountain Sheep are registered either with the UK Association or with the American Black Welsh Mountain Sheep Association. There are flocks that are double registered.
