Since 1990 when the first issue of Somos Primos was published, Somos Primos
has been the first line of communication to its members.
In 1999, SOMOS PRIMOS received National recognition when it was Awarded First
Place in the 1999 Family Tree Newsletter Contest of the Ellen Payne Odom
Genealogical Library and The Family Tree Genealogy Newspaper of Moultrie,
Georgia. The Family Tree is distributed nationally, with a distribution of over
80,000.
January 2000 Somos Primos became available free online. Formerly a quarterly, it
is now published online as a monthly at:
www.somosprimos.com.
The purpose is to:
- Provide historical/genealogical data to assist and stimulate research.
- Provide information concerning the historic contributions of
Hispanics/Latinos to the development of the United States.
- Alert readers to current events that are a reflection and a result of
past historical events in which U.S. Hispanics were involved.
- Announce meetings, displays, events, presentations by/for SHHAR members
and the activities of other groups.
- Enhance networking through queries and publication of member articles.
- Be aware of diversity issues that impact Latinos.
