The Artist
Hiroshi SHIMURA is a print-making artist living in Cambridge. Born in Tokyo in 1949,
educated at Tokyo University of Education and gain M.A.in art.
SHIMURA came to England in 1975, and joined printing courses
at Cambridgeshire College of Arts and Technology.
Since 1978, SHIMURA has been a freelance artist,and shown his screen prints
through a number of one-man exhibitions in U.K.and Japan,
as well as group exhibitions including The Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition
in London, and CWAJ Print Show in Tokyo. SHIMURA also takes parts in producing
TV programs, which introduce British culture to Japan for NHK and Satellite Channels.

Original Prints
These screen prints are original prints with edition numbers and the artist's signature.
They are printed by screen printing method with hand gradation and photographic technique.
All of the printing process and the basic photo images are produced by the artist.
These images are not produced by neither photographic process nor computer graphics.
英国の学園都市ケンブリッジは、自然あふれる田園風景に囲まれています。
日常目にする風景を素材にシルクスクリーン版画の独特な技法であるボカシ刷りや、細かい表現を 可能にした
写真製版を駆使することによって、幻想的な視覚世界を創り上げています。 インクの中に金粉や銀粉を混ぜて
グラデーションを作っている部分では、光の角度によって微妙に トーンが変化するように刷られています。
これらの作品は一般的に言われるＣＧとか写真ではありません。平滑性と発色性に優れたマット紙に、
シルクスクリーン専用のインクで ５版から１０版の多色・多層刷りで仕上げられています。

2002 Calendar/ grantchester series
2002 カレンダー /グランチェスター・シリーズ
This 2002 calendar have been specialy printed by screen-printing " M-colour system"
from 35 mm colour positive film images on synthetic paper Yupo FGS150 and VBTW85.
Those photographic images of Grantchester have been captured by Hiroshi SHIMURA.
Outskirts of the University town Cambridge, Grantchester lies in peace beside the River Cam
この2002年カレンダーは、合成紙ユポに、スクリーン印刷プロセス「Ｍカラー・システム」によって刷られています。
志村博は、アトリエがあるグランチェスターの風景を日々撮影しています。 その膨大な写真コレクションの中から
8点の写真を選び、2点組写真・4ページ構成のカレンダーにしました。 学園都市ケンブリッジ郊外のケム川沿い、
グランチェスターの刻々と変る光の風景や、四季の移ろいに、ゆったりとした悠久の時の流れを、表現しています。

1998-2001 Calendar/ pearl series
1998−2001 カレンダー /パール・シリーズ
These calendars have been printed by screen-printing process using water-base ink,
which is developed for environmental considerations. Screen-printing can produce
highest density of colour among printing methods. Using inks specially mixed with
gold and silver pearl powder makes change of tones according to light angles.
これらのカレンダーはＮＴラシャ・カラー紙にスクリーン印刷プロセスで刷られています。
通常のオフセット印刷に比べ１０倍以上インクの厚さがあり、カラー紙上の印刷でも高い発色性がありあます。
全て４版４特色で刷られていて、カラー分解による複製印刷ではありません。 また、インクの中にパールと
呼ばれる特殊な金粉・銀粉を調合することにより、光のあたる角度でトーンが変化する効果を出しています。

his studio in front of the famous tea garden "The Orchard"
Grantchester.
Grantchester set among meadows beside the River Cam and loved by generations
of Cambridge
students and dons ,such as Milton,Tenison,Wordsworth,Russells and Rupert
Brooke,etc.
Shimura caputures the images of these meadows and the tea garden day
after day.
志村博のアトリエはケンブリッジ市郊外のグランチェスターにあります。
街の中心から僅か３キロの場所ですが、
ケム川沿いにのどかな田園が広がっています。 ミルトン、バイロン、テニソン、ワーズワース、フォースターなど
ケンブリッジにゆかりの文人達がこよなく愛した場所で、ニュートン、ラザフォード、チュリング、ラッセルなど
歴史に名を残した学者たちもここを散策しながら構想をねりました。 このケム川沿いの牧草地を
グランチェスター・メドーといい、今日も多くの人に愛されています。 ここの四季の移ろいを写真に収めました。

ティー･ガーデン “オチャ−ド” グランチェスターの村はずれにあった果樹園が１００年以上も昔に
偶然のきっかけでティー･ガーデンになった。 それ以来、多くの人々に愛されてきた。
