An original polycultural performance band, SHOUTING MOUNTAIN combines indigenous flutes, Native percussion and vocals with more traditional rock elements like guitar, bass and drums. Their songs tell stories...about history, culture, nature, and restoration. Exciting, entertaining, educational, SHOUTING MOUNTAIN presents a tribal modem rock style, they call "Alter--Native."

      SHOUTING MOUNTAIN features singer-songwriter Ashley (who uses one name only) on lead vocals and cedar flute, Eli Bitsoe (a tribal member of the Navajo Nation) on percussion and Native vocals, James Maguire on acoustic and electric guitar and vocals, Marty Sims (formerly of the Rude Boys) on bass guitar, and Lawrence Glover on drums. The band is joined by performers from many other American Indian Nations including the Seneca, Mohawk, Apache, Dine and Arapaho.

      SHOUTING MOUNTAIN's debut CD release is entitled "SUMMIT". Recorded in part in Phoenix Arizona, the CD features Canyon Records Kelvin Bizahaloni (Navajo) of the group, Burning Sky (Rykodisc) on Native flutes. Ohio's pow wow drum group, the Redbird Singers appear on "SUMMIT", released on Rock Power Records in 1998. The CD has qualified for the Native American Music Awards and is reporting brisk retail and concert sales.

     SHOUTING MOUNTAIN toured the Southwest performing at the Navajo Mountain Youth Conference on the Navajo Nation. "Summit" is being featured on the American Indian Radio On Satellite Network and many commercial, college, and public radio stations across the U.S. are playing the release. Regional performances include Ohio State University, Mount Union College, LifeExpo, Buckeye Forest Councii's Annual Gathering, the Odeon Concert Club in the Flats, Cleveland, Ohio, as well as numerous acoustic dates at coffee houses, clubs, and bookstores, including Borders Bookstore. SHOUTING MOUNTAIN presents an educational program to schools and organizations which brings the wisdom of Native American teachings to a variety of audiences. The group also does many benefits for Native causes.
