History: Watch for an Updated Silver Streak Web Page soon!!!!!!

Silver Streak was established in 1992 by owner/operator John Profeta in an attempt to bring low-cost recording to the songwriters and musicians of the Capital District of NY (and also to make a few bucks). It is essentially a private project studio and while not open to the general public, occasional select outside projects are accepted. Named after the 1947 Pontiac Silver Streak that John sold in order to buy his first pro recorder and mixer, Silver Streak has played host over the last 6 years to many of Upstate NY's best musicians and songwriters. Past sessions have included Paula Frasier and Montana (It Might Be You - nom. '92 NECMA Song of the Year), Rimfire (My Moon, My Stars, and Sun - also nom. '92 NECMA song of the year), Ada Perez, Donna Profeta, T.J. Rikard, Railway, Capri, the Valley Riders album (Jim Dufty & Rimfire), and the 'Shades of Love' album (featuring the songs of Jim Dufty, Tom Fisch, John Profeta, and Bob Ragone).  A recent project that we are very proud of, is the recording of Jim Dufty's Street Hero, (featuring Valerie DeLaCruz, Don Gaylord, Dave Grapka, and John Profeta), a single whose proceeds will be used for the Capital District Homeless. In addition, Yukon recently recorded parts of their new album here, and the new Midnight Tracker album, Side By Side was recorded and mastered here. Future News: Tracks by John Profeta, Yukon, and Street hery by Jim Dufty will be included in the new N.E.C.M.A. CD to be released in the Fall. Donna Profeta is doing a few tracks for an upconing CD and Cassette release. To hear recent samples of our work, go to MP3.com and do a search on Valerie DeLaCruz, Corly Roberts, Jim Dufty, T.J. Rikard, Linda Finkle or Donna Adams-Profeta.

Purpose:

Silver Streak has always catered to small groups and songwriters. We feature low rates and demo packages designed to be affordable. We will soon be offering a 10% discount to NECMA  and JP Folks members. We can provide studio musicians and feature a demo service featuring multi-instrumentalist/owner John Profeta.

Equipment:

In just the last year we have upgraded our equipment to include a Roland VS-2480 24 track Digital recorder/Mixer, 2 CAD Equitek condenser mikes, a Marshall Large Diaphragm Condenser mike, and much more!!! We're definitely NOT fancy!! We don't have a lounge, pinball machines, bar, TV, or other amenities. But we have what it takes to get the job done.

Recording Methods:

When recording electric bands, we generally record the basic guitar, bass, and keyboard tracks direct to the board with live drums and dummy vocals. Miked guitars and finished vocals are added later as overdubs. This method yields excellent results. We also have experience with acoustic instruments, having recorded drums, guitar, fiddle, and even harps on many occasions. When recording song demos or single performers, we normally record the single performer first, then layer additional instruments on top to give a "Produced" sound. Please give us a call if you need any information, and ask for our brochure and demo cassette. Thanx for stopping by!!!!!
