and beyond is more than memory."

NEW AND NOTEWORTHY

2002 Tolkien Calendar. Illustrated by Ted Naismith.

The Lord of the Rings. Paperback, 1 vol.ume edition. Highly recommended--I've always found 3 volumes too unwieldy. New American printing by Houghton Mifflin.

The Lord of the Rings - BBC Production. The script for this radio production was written by Brian Sibley. The production leaves out a number of events, but the meat of the story is there. The characterizations are excellent and music is very nicely done. CD available now.

The Silmarillion. Hardcover edition, illustrated by Ted Nasmith. Ted Nasmith's Tolkien art is exceptional, and his illustrations for The Silmarillion are moving.

The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings (paperback, boxed set). Also available in mass market paperback).

The Lord of the Rings, hardcover edition, illustrated by Alan Lee. This book has been out of print and hard to find but has now been re-printed.

The Hobbit, illustrated by Alan Lee. These illustrations are very nicely done, and in keeping with the illustrations that Lee did for The Lord of the Rings several years ago. In addition to the color illustrations, there are pen and ink drawings scattered throughout.

J.R.R. Tolkien: A Biography, by Humphrey Carpenter. An authorized biography of Tolkien by an author that appreciates middle earth.

The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien, edited by Humphrey Carpenter, with contributions by Christopher Tolkien. An excellent collection of letters from Tolkien to family, friends, editors and fans.
