| The Area Trails Map is split into 3 trail
sections for quicker loading from the Web. The areas covered are Quillan-King's Cove, Thompson
Creek and Bee Branch. Click on the section of the
map you wish to view at a larger size (file sizes 62k - 77k necessary to keep details).
Each of the three maps has trail information, icons to information headings and icons
linking to photos. Significant waterfalls are shown with icons and some notable features
are labeled. Each of the 3 trail maps can be
printed out on your printer or saved to your PC. In Netscape, place your
cursor over the map and click the right mouse button. On the pop-up menu click on
"save image as" to save to your computer. In Microsoft Internet Explorer,
place your cursor over the map and click the right mouse button, then click on "Save
Picture as". After printing out the 3 trail maps you can splice them together to make
your own trail map (though it will not be to standard USGS 1"=2000' scale).

Quillan-King's Area Thompson Creek Area Bee Branch Area
|
| The Area Trails Map is covered by the Bee
Branch topo map. It can be purchased at most outdoor shops in Alabama, or ordered
directly from the United States Geological
Survey office in Denver, CO. Please use the Bee Branch map and a compass when hiking
this area and know how to use them. I've been hiking here for 20 years. Last year I hiked
here with the map but no compass, got turned around on a ridge and came out in a
completely different place than I intended! Fortunately the weather was nice and I had
plenty of daylight left. I soon realized my error when the creek I came across was
"running the wrong way". If you aren't familiar with the area, getting
"turned around" can be a scary feeling. Don't make the same mistake I did! |
