GROOMING-
They are as easy to keep clean as their cage is. They have
no noticeable odor and their fur is too thick for insects or parasites to
make a home in. (up to 80 hairs per
follicle)
BATHING-
They do not need regular baths with water (they hate
water); however, they use a finely ground powder labeled "Chinchilla Dust".
**Do not substitute other fine powders, use only Chinchilla
Dust** It can be purchased at most pet stores. Put a
depth of 2 inches in a tub and let your chinchilla have his bath session.
Do not leave the dust in the tank indefinitely. 5 minutes is sufficient.
They will throw it out or go potty in it after they are done bathing. They
should be given their dust baths 2 times each week or more often if
you live in humid climates.

SHEDDING/COMBING-
Chinchillas gradually shed their fur every 3 months, so
don't worry if your find fluffy balls of fur in your pet's cage. You might
notice uneven fur growth on your animal's back. New fur growth usually
begins at the neck and moves down and over the animal's body. A chinchilla
needs combed to remove old fur that is being shed. One plus, you will get
rid of the old fur a lot faster all at once and not find it floating around
the room.
