Six Gems farm is a family owned and operated horse farm. We are located just north of Pittsburgh on 55 picturesque acres in South Butler. Six Gems is a dream come true for us, we originally owned riding horses, with the children competing and riding in Pony Club, 4 H and some local competitions. When I broke my back soon after my last child, number 6, was born I found that riding was not something I was going to be able to do much more of. In comes the miniature horses. With the minis I found I could still have my horses without the risks of the riding horses. It was a true love and a lasting love. Not only did I start to fulfill my dreams with them, but soon the kids were also showing the horses at my side. They became very competitive very quickly and we had a ball with them. Often showing every weekend and going to nationals was the highlight of our lives. Breeding top ten and reserve national champions was a delight and a pleasure. We had found a wonderful activity we could all do together...and we did. Now, 15 yrs later, we are still enjoying our horses!! The children are growing up and two have already graduated from college and started their careers. Shannon has been accepted to vet school, so hopefully she will be able to help with more than just the showing end of the farm. Caitlin is pursuing medicine....and I have two very involved with their careers and two still at home-- in high school and elementary school respectively. The horses are a big part of our lives..it is not just that we own horses, it is a way of life for us. It is reflective in all we do.
Recently, we have decided to reduce our herd since I am having some health issues. You can note some of our horses have been drastically reduced and are listed well below their value. What we are looking for is great, permanent homes for them. Please feel free to inquire on some of our horses, for show or pet homes. We also have some chinese crested puppies available at times. We love to talk horses and cresteds are always open for a visit. Kathleen Sullivan
