On general release 26th January 1998
Suzanne J. Barbieri's project has been co-written, arranged and produced by Richard Barbieri (Japan & Rain Tree Crow). Guest musicians include Steve Jansen and Mick Karn (Japan & Rain Tree Crow), Jakko Jakszyk, Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree & No Man) and jazz saxophonist Theo Travis.
The album is available by mail order from Medium Productions, 74 Saint Lawrence Road, Upminster, Essex, RM14 2UW, from October and will be on general release on 26th January 1998
"The first notes feel like scented water being trickled into your ears, and by the end of the track (Only Forward) you're floating in it - a magically mixed wash of synth effects, broad guitar currents and La Barbieri's voice... The only time the album slips out of this luxurious aural bath is during the smoky Eno-esque funk of Feed the Fire: [Mick] Karn's snaky bass obbligato and Suzanne's vocal sensuality combining to melt glass."
"The songs are very atmospheric, some slow and moody, others fairly up-tempo, but all sharing a distinct 'edge'... I like it and it deserves to do well."
Only Forward
A ghost once said, I'm not a heaven person;
And that's how it's been for me.
And you, my friend, who raced across the ocean,
And found the dream was real.
Above the clouds, the sea looks like an island,
Blue water turned to grey.
I took your hand, walked across the water,
And left behind today
When something bad tears up all your life,
Part of you moves on, part of you stays
And there's a light, that shines up through your life,
To comfort the child who's lost and afraid.
All the hidden things - the secrets you keep,
Rising up through still waters,
Starker than memory, starker than dreams,
You can never go back - only forward.
A ghost once said: I'm not a heaven person,
That's how it's been for me.
And there's a light, that shines up through your life,
To comfort the child who's lost and afraid.
All the hidden things - the secrets you keep,
Rising up through still waters
Starker than memory, starker than dreams
You can never go back - only forward
Always tomorrow,
You can never go back - only forward
Always tomorrow,
You can never go back - only forward.
The World's End
Know this, I hold the memory
Believe me, I share the dream
Down and down, down and down,
Thunder break the wall
Down and down, down and down,
Tears of strong men fall to the World's End.
As we walk in darkness, the sun a candle flame
A brighter world awaits, are we all to blame?
There was talk of other oceans, there was talk of other dreams
But for every whispered love song: a pocket full of screams.
We build a tower to heaven, a legion speak as one
Unleash the power of heaven and tear the work undone.
Down and down, down and down
Thunder break the wall
Down and down, down and down
Watch the sinners fall to the World's End
Thunder split the tower, Babylon Tongues
One divide into many Babylon Tongues
Down and down and down to the World's End
To the World's End, Babylon tongues
To the World's End
Feed the Fire
Breathe the smoke, taste the fire, bone winged birds in spiral flight
The hide within breaks through the skin, the beast inside, the silent guide
Emerging from the deep into this waking sleep,
The soul beneath the skin in spirit rise, sun dancing
Flesh and bone we feed the fire
Bushes burn the dance begins soaring through the breathing wind
Fly above the pain taking shape again
Muscles stretch and sinews snap in spirit rise, sun dancing
Flesh and bone we feed the fire
Walk with me through this life, carry me through endless night
Beneath the midnight sun, man and beast as one
Through river, earth and sky, our spirits rise, sun dancing
Flesh and bone we feed the fire
Take this life in your hands...
Falling into Years
Underneath this will I am darker still
As a dreamer sees through the mask of sleep
I am yours to take in a world we make
I will bend for you if you want me to
On the edge of dreaming
Hands across a sea of skin, let the waves come rushing in
The light slips away, time slips away
Send a life line down the wire, with every breath we fan the fire
And time slips away, falling into years
As the pages turn, and the candle burns
With the dying light, in the veil of night
So our shadows fly to another sky
If you choose to stay we can find a way
They will never find us
Hands across a sea of skin, let the waves come rushing in
The light slips away, time slips away
Send a lifeline down the wire, with every breath we fan the fire
And time slips away, falling...
Take me down where heaven lies in the forest of your eyes
Darker than an angel's breath, fill me with the sweetest death
Send a lifeline down the wire, every breath will fan the fire
Count the seasons passing by, falling into years
Every scene is there, everything we've shared
If you want me to I will find the truth
Read between each line, searching for a sign
I will wait for you if you want me to
Hands across a sea of skin, let the waves come rushing in
The light slips away, time slips away
Send a life line down the wire, with every breath we fan the fire
Count the seasons passing by, falling into years
The Wilderness
Shadow falls across the Moon,
Eagle swoop too soon
Swiftly springs the coiled snake,
Like a bone shaker, bone shaker, bone shaker
In the wilderness
I know this place, this barren land
I've been this way before
I know your face, that withered hand
Mr bone shaker, bone shaker, bone shaker
Catch my breath, the air's so dry
No water in this breeze
No sign of life, just sand on sand
And hollow bloodless trees
I hear a sound like beating wings
That could not be a bird
The sound of bone on leathered skin
Of the bone shaker, bone shaker, bone shaker
Towards the Light
High above the good people sleep, I close my eyes and I'm in too deep
Over my head, and no way to stop, going down as the sun came up
We are all - children
We are all - crying
Let me be everything, carry you through this night
Let me be everything, guide you towards the light.
Like a sleepwalker
The night is dark but I feel no cold, watching you as my heart unfolds
This time there's no room for doubt, I'm over my head and there's no way out
We are all - children
We are all - crying
Let me be every thing, carry you through this night
Let me be everything, guide you towards the light.
Like a sleepwalker
Sky Fall
We crossed a line but the world still turns
The sky didn't fall, and nothing has changed
Behind the door, we spark and burn,
With your hands on my head, I tell you again
Heaven shines on the chosen few
Should I believe this is real, should I believe in you
Keep a light in your heart for me
I'm not as strong as you think, I could slip away so easily
With this flame to guide you
Somewhere deep inside, you're a part of me,
Let the dream enfold you
With my arms to hold you, we're home again, home again
Keep a light in your heart for me
I'm not as strong as you think, I could slip away so easily
We crossed a line but the world still turns
The sky didn't fall...
