Welcome to the Northern California Micro-Sprint Racing News Homepage. Micro-sprints are open wheel cars that run motorcycle engines for power. Micro-Sprints also referred to as modified midgets or multi-sprints mainly run three engine classes or sizes. 125 cubic centimeters (CC) , 250cc single cylinder and 600cc that run multi cylinder engines. Micros are a smaller version of the sprint cars and midgets that make headlines in the World of Outlaws and USAC. Many sprint and midget drivers have competed in the micro class before moving up the racing ladder. This page will be dedicated to those aspiring micro-sprint racers from Northern and Central California.

    News: Updated: 2-15-2004:

  • Due to a change in my motor sports focus, an upcoming change in internet service, lack of contributors and dwindling viewers the last several years the decision has been made to no longer maintain this website. It will remain online as a source of information for all to use for an undetermined length of time. This site has been online since October 15, 1997 and was once the only website dedicated to micro sprint racing in Northern California. For the past 7 years this site has been updated well over 1,000 times acquiring over 250,000 hits. With every track having their own websites now I feel this one is no longer needed. I enjoyed creating this site and I think it reached it's goal of having a place where micro sprint racers can come to view updated results and schedules. It's best years were from 1998 to 2000 where results from most Nor. Cal tracks were featured weekly. Some unforgettable memories include the 1997 season at San Jose Speedway where I got my start, seeing countless drivers grow up including Chuck Gurney Jr, Barry Pries Jr., Brian Gard, Mark Holeman, Dino Tomassi Jr., the Dennett's, the Kaeding's and Garratt Boyden to name a few. Photo's that stick in my mind are Cook II's crash thru the turn 4 wall at Delta, Pries Jr. and Jonathan Foster both on 2 wheels at Prairie City, Shawn Laeber's wheelie, checkered flag laps in memory of Roger Paulson and Rick Laeber. Other accomplishments worth noting are seeing Rex Jorn's comeback from double amputation to his return to the winners circle, Shawn and Rick Laeber's bittersweet 2000 600cc Delta Championship, seeing Mark Holeman win his first 250 and 600cc mains as well as his Delta championship with the help of patient self learning techniques used by his dedicated father Jim and mother Monica which I wish over bearing fathers would take note of, being able to say I was a friend of Roger Paulson, Jim Shiels, Bob Marlow and Rick Laeber before they left for the big race track in the sky are memories I will cherish forever. I want to personally thank longtime contributor Gary Jacob who has written 90% of the stories seen here and has been this sites biggest supporter since day one. Another longtime contributor is Paul Vetter who's stories go back to the 90's. A Special thanks to both of you who have dedicated so much to motor sports over the years. Other thanks go out to Garrett Andrews, Ralph Cortez, Rick Cook, Derek Overkamp, Brian Lugo, Christine Root, Steve Hazelton, Pete Paulsen, Michael Harris, Gordon Seros and a host of others who have contributed to this site over the years. I am sure I missed a few names here but you know who you are. Thanks for your time and thanks for viewing the Northern California Micro Sprint Racing News website over the years.......Mark Sublett

In Memory of Jim Shiels

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Jim Shiels who passed away after a lengthy illness. He was one of the best statisticians in Northern California and wrote complete racing histories on tracks such as Stockton 99, Madera and Altamont as well as a 10 year history of Delta Speedway. Jim contributed to many newspapers and racing publications and the words he put on paper describing the races he attended will be sorely missed.............Mark Sublett

In Memory of Bob Marlow

The Northern California Racing News is saddened to report that longtime car owner Bob Marlow passed away Friday, January 10th. Bob was a great supporter of modified midget racing for more than 25 years. Marlow, from French Camp has been a respected driver turned car owner in Northern California for more than six decades campaigning Drag Racers, Modifieds, Sprint Cars and most recently Modified Midgets at tracks from Chico to Bakersfield. His major accomplishments include the 1972 Modified championship at Stockton 99 Speedway with Dennis Hicks at the wheel. He can claim no less than three National Modified Midget titles with drivers Don Strach and Terry Tarditti wheeling his cars. His own driving days saw him set the National record of 156mph, 9.70 seconds in the “D” Dragster class at Kingdom’s 1/4 Mile Drag strip in Lodi in 1959. Marlow will be sorely missed.

Get Well Shawn

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Shawn Schwabenland who was badly injured at Plaza Park Speedway on Memorial day weekend 2002. Shawn is 30 years old, married to wife Stacy, and has two children with one on the way. Shawn and his family can really use your prayers and support right now. Cards of encouragement and support can be sent to:
