Business Statement

Hunted/watched:

(These are possible complications/contacts employees of Griffon Environmental may take because of their affiliation with the company)

Environment Agency - The EA keeps up a regular watch on Griffon Environmental and get about as much co-operation as a UN man in Bagdad.

Bad Reputation - The inhabitants of Westborough hate Griffon Employees and refuse to serve them in shops.

Swarm - This victim of Lot 78 (see below) has a lethal grudge against Griffon Environmental

Background:

Griffon Environmental is the latest in a string of dodgy companies set up (and later closed down) by Griff Davenport. Griffon makes it's money by taking on the Toxic Waste that no reputable company would touch with a barge pole, "Process" it and then dispose of it in the most unlikely, places(usually at night).

Griffon Environmental is just one step away from being closed down by the EA, when they finally get caught, the firm will be sold to a "new management team", be renamed Griffon Waste Services and continue exactly as before.

It may come as no surprise that Griffon Environmental's main client is Panstar UK(requires a heroic Bureaucratic skill to find this out).

Activities:

The Yard

At Griffon Environmental's processing site toxic waste is stored awaiting decontamination. waste is stored in unmarked rusty leaking drums stacked 10m high (5 drums). When investigated the mysterious "Process" Griff uses to decontaminate waste involves :-

  1. squeezing the juice out of it.
  2. boiling off the liquid.
  3. hiding the solids left behind.

The Yard's Environmental record 1996-97(available from the EA)*

  1. Major Fire in toxic drum storage area - Eight fire appliances in attendance.
  2. Major fire in Processor building - Typhoon assisted & twelve fire appliances in attendance.
  3. Major fire in decontaminated solids storage area - 5 fire appliances.
  4. Poisonous vapour cloud - Westborough evacuated, Army called in to assist.
  5. Major Fire in toxic drum Storage Area - Eight fire appliances in attendance.
  6. Unknown substance Kills all fish in the River Biss downstream of Griffon.
  7. Major Fire in fuel storage area - Typhoon assisted, Three fire appliances in attendance.
  8. 17 Minor fires not requiring more than one fire appliance

(*This is a real record from the firm that inspired Griffon Environmental)

Current Activity - Griff has cut a deal with a farmer in the Black Mountains National Park, to store a few harmless oil drums on his land. The Farmer has no idea that the contract he signed will allow the dumping of 5000 Toxic Waste Drums. This is the stuff that even Griff doesn't want within 100 miles of his office (at the yard).

The Black Mountain Waste (Panstar Lot 78) - This stuff is a fluorescent yellow, water soluble slime, in its condensed form it is about as lethal as cobra venom and can be absorbed through the skin. In water it becomes a colourless random mutagen, causing spontaneous mutation either instantly or over a period of #D6 weeks. (see Lot 78 victims below). Like Agent Orange once in the Environment it will go right through the food chain. This stuff is so nasty Panstar sent it to Griff via no less than eight dummy companies.

Yellow slime - 5d6 NND HKA gradual effect (1 Hour) - requires contact with skin can be prevented with prompt medical attention

Contaminated water - 12d6 Transformation - random mutation - variable trigger either instant effect, gradual or instant triggered by stress at a later time 0r treat it as a "Radiation Accident"

The black mountain site is just one of dozens dotted around the country and Lots 79 through 89 were disposed of by companies in other countries.

GM Note: Panstar - It should be difficult to find out that Panstar was involved and almost impossible to uncover what Panstar Lot's 78-89 were. Early in 1990 Panstar researchers came across the lab notes of the notorious 19th century geneticist Dr Moreau. It was an easy matter to synthesise a new batch of the syrum that Dr Moreau used to combine animal and human DNA. The hope was to fulfill Moreau's dream of adding the strength's and abilities of various species to human test subjects. Unfortunately the syrum was too powerful and unpredictable, eventually with Turbine (see base australis) tracking down a sudden lack of street people in Sydney (used as experimental subjects), the whole project was "sanitised" and the syrum (Lot's 78-89) was disposed of.

GM Note: Characters born during the 19th century or with access to Dr Watson's journals will easily recognise Dr Moreau's handywork. Professor Moriarty (a villainous mastermind) certainly recognizes the syrum's origin and is watching with interest.

Employees

Griff Davenport's employees are typical manual labourers/truck drivers with the exception of slightly reduced intellect (from handling toxic waste) and a total lack of morals.

Mental 2 Physical 6 Skill 2
Combat 5 Move 3 Speed 3

Skills: Brawling Martial art, Drive Articulated Vehicle

Typical Lot 78 Victim (human)
Mental 1 Physical 12 Skill 2
Combat 6 Move 10 Speed 5

Attack: 12pt attack power-pick a physical one, (no energy powers)

Defense: 12d6 KD/12d6EKD (roll at creation to find amount of armour)

Complications, induced mental problem(pick one) Constant,Severe,Extreme, Distinctive - mutant

Lot 78 causes it's victims to either spontaneously or slowly mutate by adding DNA picked up in the environment to the host. The added DNA can be from any living creature and can be added to any creature. Because most creatures are mentally less advanced a common side effect is reduced intellect and mental problems caused by inappropriate instincts. Think of Lot 78 victims as being like The Fly (a movie).

More unusual victims include Dominic Jones age 16 - now a centaur (registered with Pegasus Paranormal Employment Agency), Swarm - name unknown, a humanoid bee swarm( a monster), Mary Jones (un-related to DJ) age 53 - now a sheep/human hybrid (and mental patient)

Charlie "Griff" Davenport
Mental 6 Physical 3 Skills 5
Combat 3 Move 2 speed 3

Attack: 6d6 killing attack 9mm pistol 20c

Defense: 18 KD/EKD Armour + Life Support Environment Suit - Ungrabbable Focus - rarely used. Mental defence special - Telepaths skimming for "guilt" emotions will find nothing, griff believes he has done nothing wrong.

Skills: Profession (Manager), Expert (Environmental&Contract Law), Business, Streetwise

Complications: Hunted Swarm more Power, UK, lethal,  Watched Environment Agency more power, UK

Griff is a fat balding sweaty little man about 5'8" tall, typically he wares crumpled looking business clothes, and chain smokes. Griff isn't actually evil, he's just amoral, he regards himself as an honest businessman struggling to make a profit (see mental def - special). Apart from the Environment Agency Griff's main worry is a Lot 78 victim called Swarm, for some reason it's blaming him for It's condition.

Game Use - Griff  is not so much a villain as comic relief, Frying him would probably save more lives than destroying Mechanon, but would be very un-heroic. Griff is Toxic Waste's equivalent of Arthur Daley (ITV UK series "Minder") a chearful bender of rules, always with a new get rich quick scheme in the works.
