The Welsh Wildlife Centre

Spring, summer, autumn and winter, the Welsh Wildlife Centre has something for everyone.

Eight kilometres of footpaths weave through woodland, meadow, reedbed, marsh and riverside for a glimpse of some of Britain's most precious and exciting wildlife in its natural habitat.

Nearly 270 acres of nature reserve, dominated by the marsh and reedbeds on one side and on the other the beautiful Teifi river winding through a gorge carved by the meltwaters of a great Ice Age glacier.

The Welsh Wildlife Centre is also a working example of conservation management of former industrial land, with its slate waste, old quarry and railway line habitats. The ancient art of coracle fishing is still practised here at one of the few locations in Wales.

A series of events, activities and courses, both day and night, provide that extra special visitor experience.

Children (and adults) can enjoy the wildlife adventure playground which is open all year round.

Look out over the reserve from the tree tops hide, where you can also see the secret world of the wildlife found only in the tree canopy.

Look out too for the "Nuthatch", the reserve restaurant, over the second largest reedbed in Wales, domain of the graceful otter, the elusive Cetti's warbler and a haunt of a wide variety of waterbirds.

In the 21st century building, learn more about this super reserve, its wildlife residents and visitors. There is also a shop where you can buy gifts and souvenirs, many made by local craftspeople and artists.

The Welsh Wildlife Centre is located near Cilgerran, Cardigan. tel 01239 621600, fax 01239 613211.
