Who we were? We were a small band of off road enthusiasts. We liked to take our 4x4's and explore places out in the back areas. Some of us even like to tackle places like the Rubicon.
When did we start ? On January 1st, 1996, "SCOUT'N ABOUT" the 4x4 club became official. Our "Scout" club had 3 Scouts, 2 Jeeps and 1 Bronco II in it at one time. We welcomed all brands of 4x4's and IH vehicles, but the founder is owner and a major enthusiast of Scouts. The club went on mild runs as well as taking on the 'Rubicon' trail, rated one of the hardest trails in the United States. We promoted the 'Tread Lightly' philosophy of trying to have no adverse impact on the environment. We love our earth and want to keep it from getting destroyed. We also believe that the earth is there for us to enjoy. These two beliefs are completely compatible in our opinion.
What kinds of things did we do ? Some events our club has been to: 1st Annual Winter Scout Nationals, which were held at Hollister Hills SVRA, Scout Tour of Death Valley, (put on by Scouts West), and the 'Rubicon Scramble', (sponsored by Sierra Scouts). Our own club events included, the Annual "Turkey Run" at Stoneyford SVRA, the 'Lost Coast' trail, various trails in the Trinity Alps, and our annual club picnic at Hollister Hills. We had teenagers, families and Senior citizens.
The club and club members will be missed, as some have moved far away.
