Shown below is STeve's Scout. This is our family, four wheeling in it. The picture is of us wheeling in Stonyford off road park in Northern California. Notice the axle articulation. I didn't even remove the sway plate that is attached to the front shackles. I have had the Scout almost 12 years. It has over 450,000 miles on it now. When I bought it, it was in stock condition.
Then . . . . . . . . . . . . and . . . . . . . . . Now . . . . . . . . . . . .

See my NorthWest Binder Round Up Pics

Here it is ! A picture of my 40 gallon gas tank, both in and out of my Scout !
I know you 12.5 mpg Scout owners like me are asking yourself right now, "How can I get one like that ?" or "Where did he get that ?". You might even be contemplating sending me e-mail, to ask me those very same questions. I do enjoy the e-mail I've gotten, and so don't let that stop you from sending me a line, but right here, I'll tell you what I'd tell you by e-mail. (Actually, I'll tell you more)
The gas tank was in the Scout when I bought it in 1993. It is made of a plastic or polywhatever type of material. Whenever I finally get around to pulling the tank, I'll take pictures and measure the whole thing and put the info in the IH digest and on my web page, for all to make use of. Today, I went back outside to look at the sticker on the skid plate over the tank. (If you look closly at the picture, you can actually see the sticker on the skid plate)It is an orange sticker that looks like this:
I checked my copy of Phone DISC for any listing of ORD or ORD Performance Prodects, and came up empty handed. So . . . I can only conclude that either they are no longer in business, or changed their name. Now, if you really want one like this, their are a couple of things we in the Scout community can do. 1-Ask around and see if anybody has heard of the company and see if someone can track them down and see if a tank can still be made. 2-See if a company like AERO can make one using the dimensions, etc. that I'd provide.
Hey Steve,I may be late with this info, but I 'll tell you anyway. ORD went out of business about '81. I have a couple of their catalogs and they had some excellent Scout gear. They apparently sponsored off road racing Terras.I was really bummed when they sent me a post card saying that due to lack of interest, they would no longer carry any Scout II items.(They did not have anything else!)Your site is cool, and my '72 is still raging at 250K. (courtesy of Bill Nabers)
If you haven't found out lemme tell you. I bought a SSII a few monthes ago and the guy had all the original stuff plus catalogs through the ages. One is from ORD. It is actually called Off-Road Distributors. They were (are) located in Lemon Grove CA. The catalog I have is from 1978! They had all kinds of really cool stuff however they do not show your gas tank. For some reason I thought I heard people talking about them now in San Diego making custom off-road racing springs. (courtesy of Brent)
Thanks Guys. This just proves that IH owners are the coolest in the world. Anyone know if these two places are the same ?
1 - "????????????" hey does anyone know what the name of a small independent film, which had a scout traveling across a desert with some people killing everyone and filmed it along the way. it is a white 7? ihc with the top off. anyone know? (courtesy of carlos) 1 - "The A-team" If I am not mistaken, there is also a scout in the telivision series "The A-team". In one episode there are "Federalies" (cops of some sort) driving a orange scout II without the hardtop. (courtesy of Jeender Bonnema)
The two Scouts in commercials may not be scouts. The Unruly
commercial was I think a early 70's chevy blazer, although I don't
remember for sure (I recall being disapointed that it was a chevy though).
The Old Spice commercial if it is the one I am thinking of, is a brown
late 70's Dodge Ramcharger, identifiable by the rounded windsheild and
window frames that are atached to the tops of the doors, admitedly the
Ramchargers do look like Scout IIs. The Ramcharger I owned was mistaken
for a Scout more than once, although not as often as my dad's Scout II was
mistaken for a Ramcharger. Also, about a year or two ago there was a commercial for Wallgreens (a drugstore) that featured a young couple, there dog and a beutiful
traveller. (courtesy of Mike) 1-3 "Salem's Lot", "The Mist" & "The Dark Half" - I know it's a little off subject, but in almost all of Stephen King's older books and short stories, there's an IH somewhere in the story, Salems Lot (Scout), The Mist (Traveler), The Dark Half (Scout), etc. Must have been a proud owner at one time since the IH is usually saving the day or getting to a location that nothing else can reach.(courtesy of John Langmaid) 1 - 1 - "Gotta Sell Them Chickens" In this video, they had, I think a Scout 80. It didn't have a top on it, and the windshield was either folded down, or was removed, I couldn't tell. Has anyone else seen this video?(courtesy of Dan) 1 - Refrigerators ?: Just how weird can IH owners really get ?
On your Scouts in movies section #1 is "For Richer or Poorer" . . .Digesters ?
2 - "????????????" Speaking of Scout /IH sightings. I watched that new Tim Allen movie where they are hiding from the IRS as Amish people and Tim gets beat up by an IH pick up. All you can see is half the bed and the tailgate where it clearly says INTERNATIONAL. (courtesy of Dan Nees)
3 - "Un ????? Heroes"Hi. There's a movie you missed with major Travelall footage. It's either "Unlikely Heroes" or "Unsung Heroes." In it, John Turturro drives around in a old, olive green, mint cond. Travelall. Aside from a lot of Travelall shots, it's a great movie.
If the Turturro movie had andie mcdowell, it was called "Unstrung Heroes".:) . . .Digesters ?
4 - "????????????" Hallmark Hall of Fame movies-two recent ones with James Earl Jones-in one of them he played a clock repairman and drove a gorgeous looking '37 pickup (can't remember the name of this one). (courtesy of John Langmaid)
5 - "Beautiful Girls"! Saw another Scout in a movie this weekend. Someone probably already mentioned it, but oh well; "Beautiful Girls"! Good movie. About 10 minutes into movie Timmothy Hutton gets into a friends jeep Cherokee, then this sky blue Scout II comes rolling down the street by itself, real good exposure! Funny how the talk has been about yuppies and Scouts, etc. If you think about it, those guys making those movies (Desperado, Beautiful girls, Deliverence, etc.), they really understand the "thing" about Scouts. That's why they are in those movies; it's not because of chance, it's more of a homage, or acknowledgement of what an IH is all about...
6 - "Bodyguard" In the movie "Bodyguard" there is a shot or two when they are at Costner's fathers cabin with a white Scout II or something in the background.
7 - "Con-Air" Also, toward the end of "Con-Air" There is a brief glimpse of a scout 80 with a half top.(courtesy of Gary)
8 - "Crocodile Dundee" Just watched a rereun of Crocodile Dundee and caught a glimpse of an old Travelall or Crew Cab he was driving when he came upon the water buffalo in the road. It looked like it was about a '65 (in US models), but it was probably an Australian-built model so I don't really know what it was. I didn't see this one listed in the eariler discussions.. (courtesy of Howard R Pletcher)
9 - "Deliverance" - everyone should know this one.
10 - "Desparado" An awesome black Scout that is driven into the desert sunset at the end of the movie. This new movie (based on El Mariachi) has a lifted, army-green scout. No top. Yes, Salma gets to drive this one too. OK folks. Is the Scout Black or Army Green ?
11 - "Duel" - The other movie is a classic called "Duel". It's about this guy who gets chased by a mad trucker everywhere he goes. In one scene the trucker tries to get him killed by waving him around when there is a truck coming. They only show it for a second, but it looks like a maybe '72 Travel-all. In another scene the guy in the car loses control and takes down a fence, narrowly missing what appears to be 2 mid 60's IH trucks. Maybe it's just me wanting to believe some-one would be that cool to put 3 IH's in movie !!! anyway see what you think. (courtesy of Andrew Thomas)
12 - "Dumb & Dumber" Dumb & Dumber. There an old IH pickup in the parking lot behind them when they are sitting down for lunch at the diner. The scene with Flo
and Seabass to be more specific (for those of you who havn't seen the movie, that just made no sense. Go rent it!). I'm not very knowlegable about the old pickup line, so I couldn't tell you what year. My best guess, from seeing one like it around town, would be '72. But don't hold me to it! (courtesy of Nick Cuskey)
13 - "The Eiger Sanction"
14 -"The Electric Horseman" At the very end of the movie, the guy is hitchhiking someplace (Nevada or Idaho I think) And a Flame Red (looks orange) 70's pickup drives past him.
Electric Horseman-you missed the pickup (think it's the same one) where the cops are chasing him through the little town, can see it going down a side-street.
15 -"Empire Records" One more for your list, "Empire Records" with Liv Tyler. The girls were driving too work in a toppless Scout II. (courtesy of Dale) In the 1995 movie "Empire Records", actress Liv Tyler is picked up and taken to work in a topless, shiny red Scout. By the way, I liked the movie, but I bet that wont be the popular consensus! The Scout will be seen in about the first five minutes. If you don't like the flick by that point, you can rewind it there, and miss nothing... uh, except Liv Tyler!
16 - "Escape from El Diablo"
17 -"Fools Rush In" has Selma Hayek driving a light blue scout with soft top and roll bar. Not a pretty Scout, but it still is.
Hi everybody, thought I'd let you guys know about a couple of movies I saw recently with Internationals in them. The one is called "Fools rush in". It has that Mathew Perry guy from Friends and Salma Hayek as the female lead. (little bit of trivia for you... She was also the female lead in "Desperado". She drove a Scout in that movie)
I just caught the end of the "Fools rush in" movie. He was standing on I believe Hoover dam when she drove up in soft top Scout. Light blue in color and not bad looking at all. I'm gonna have to rent it to see if the Scout graces any other scenes.
Go rent it. There are lots of shots of the Scout II. But . . . I gotta ask ya, would you have ridden in the ambulance, or followed the ambulance in the Scout ? (STeve)
18 -"GrandView USA" Stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Patrick Swayze and some younger guy in a coming-of-age thing. He drives around in a nice, completely stock red C1000/1100 with a Bonus bed, the 6cyl and three-on-the-tree.
19 - "Gross Anatomy"Here is a IH Travelall sighting in the movie Gross Anatomy which you could add. The main character Joe Slovak drives it throughout the movie. Its pretty beat-up but it is still cool! (courtesy of a Fellow Scout Owner, Steven Jorgens)
20 - "Grumpier Old Men" I think I remember seeing a traveler in "Grumpier Old Men" with Walter
Matthau(courtesy of Gary)
Don't forget "Grumpier Old Men" where a 4x4 Travelall is one of the GOM's vehicle that he pulls his fishing boat with.
21 - "Hear No Evil" was on Cinemax tonight. Didn't get a chance to watch all of it, but I caught a scene were they sent a perfectly innocent Scout exploding off a bridge into a river. Wasn't somebody ollecting these things? Anyway, don't remember what movies have been mentioned before, but I just watched "Hear No Evil", which has a nice Scout II that shows up several times in the first twenty minutes...and then gets blown up in a huge fireball and falls off a bridge. When they winched it out, it looked like all it would need was a new top, windshield and steering wheel... To make up for the pain of that, you _do_ get to see Marlee Matlin in a wetsuit later on, so....:) ( courtesy of Robert)
22 - "Hell Fighters" ?A John Wayne movie where his job is to put out these killer oil well fires. In one scene there is a cool looking 60's model 4X4 Travelall in the backround. (courtesy of Tim)
23 - "Hooper" Stars Jan-Michael Vincent, Sally Field and Burt Reynolds in a story about stunt men. It features an Scout SS II.
On the movie seen there was a super scout in a Burt Reynolds movie where he
was a stuntman, the movie shows a real good scene where a couple of good
looking girls jumps out of a jeep and into a sweet looking scout ( imagine
that), the scout was driven by rosco peco train from The Dukes of Hazard
Check out the Hooper Scout SSII now owned by Pat Decker.
24 - "Hoosiers", a film about a small high school winning the Indiana State Tournament has a KB-1 or KB-2 pickup in one very early scene. Hoosiers was made in 1985. Gene Hackman stars as the coach and Dennis Hopper was a supporting actor. The Coach gets a ride from the school's librarian in her mom's IH pickup when he first moves to town.
25 - "Hope Floats" Ok, how many people saw Hope Floats, just to see that sweet Scout 80? Now, how many people went to see it to see Sandra Bullock? Ok, who else besides me went to see the movie to see the Scout and with the hopes of seeing Sandra Bullock sitting in it NAKED!!!! Sorry guys, doesn't happen. :( Nice looking Scout though. (courtesy of Gary)
"Hope Floats" with Sandra Bullock & Harry Connick Jr, it's currently in the top 10. Harry Connick owns what looks to be an early to mid 70's Scout II with 31 or 33" tires. Lot's of looks at it, he drives it to and fro, he and Sandra go to a drive in theatre and sit in it, and you see it again in the very last scene. (courtesy of mark)
By now, the movie is not in the top 10. It is a Scout 80, not a Scout II (STeve)
26 - "Independance Day"In Independance Day, Will Smith's girlfriend, after LA is destroyed by the aliens, finds an IH Loadstar dumptruck. She gets the key over the sun visor and it starts right up, even after the alien Nuclear blast, or whatever that was. It must have been points. IH vehicles can even withstand alien invasions! (courtesy of CookieDan)
27 - "Lost on the Bohemian Highway" There was a movie on the dish "Lost on the Bohemian Highway" and at the beginning the male lead is delivered to a train/bus station in a nice white '60's pickup with International in black letters across the tailgate.
28 - "The Lost World: Jurasic Park II" Isn't it fitting that a Scout Traveler is safe refuge for our hero. I would imagine that by now almost everyone has seen Jurassic Park? If you look closely in the scene toward the end when the raptors are chasing the people inside the building on the island you can see, if only in silhouette, what I do believe to be a Travelall. I did a couple rewinds, and one of the clues is that the hood is ajar, and you can see that it opens the way we're all familiar with. Can anyone confirm this? (courtesy of Joe C.)
29 - "Mad Love" with Chris O'Donnell and Drew Barrymore - they take off across the country in a Scout II. ( I have to ask, would you leave your Scout like he did? )
Steve, If you saw Mad Love, some of it was filmed in Alamogordo, NM and in the scene where they are stealing a licence plate, my old scout traveler is in the background. Didn't know it until my daughter saw the movie and told me. Of course I had to rent it and see for my self, and it was there. The picture was taken while I was in the local Drug Store, and I told my kids that I never saw any of the filming. I guess if I had come out and seen someone stealing a license plate next to my car I would have been a little upset. I didn't even know that they were filming in the area. PS the scout is blue with white strips, original paint job. (courtesy of Mike Mosier)
30 - "Maximum Overdrive" - I think I got one that you missed. It again is a Steven King movie called Maximum Overdrive. Posessed truck tries to kill everyone in a small town(I think). I saw parts of it at work (bartender) but didn't really get to watch it. In the beginning I think there is an orange Scout 80 or 800 sliding down the slope of a draw bridge. If you ever get a chance to watch it try to find out if it is. I may be wrong. Some of the waitresses saw the movie and said it wasn't that bad. Stars, or at least has Emilio Estevez in it. Also lots of big rigs. probably some I.H. (courtesy of George H)
The scout in Maximum Overdrive is about a '64-'67 scout 80 or 800. It is yellow (original). Just thought I'd tell you. Thanks, (courtesy of Daniel Backlund)
Steve, Just read your list of Scouts in movies. Quite a bit of research you've done I think I got one that you missed. 31 - "Near Dark" - vampire movie starring Lance Henrikson. Vampires use a mid-60's travelall with blacked out windows as transportation. (courtesy of John Langmaid)
Near Dark-vampire movie starring Lance Henrikson. Vampires use a mid-60's travelall with blacked out windows as transportation.
32 - "Pete & Tillie" I think I hit the jackpot last weekend when it comes to IH-spotting in Hollywood movies. How about not one or two, but THREE IH Scouts sitting bumper to bumper? In the early seventies film "Pete & Tillie" (Walter Matthau, Carol Burnett) there is a scene where Carol Burnett and another character (Gertrude?) are walking to the police station and pass THREE navy blue & white postal Scouts that are parked curbside. A nice, long, lingering scene as they round the corner and slowly walk past all three. And as an added bonus, the rest of the movie is pretty darn good as well. (courtesy of Bill Thebert)
33 - "Race The Sun" - Just caught part of "Race the Sun" on cable--a junior-high kid oriented film, but the opening shows a nice 78-79 Scout in the background several times, along with some other neat cars like a early '60's Chrysler 300 convertible. Most of the film takes place in Australia with no Scouts. (courtesy of Howard Pletcher of Howteron Products Scout Parts)
34 - "Right Stuff" - has anyone ever mentioned the 60's IH air force ambulance at the end of the right stuff? It comes out to the airfield when chuck yeager sticks his plane into the ground. (courtesy of spencer)
35 - "Star Trek IV" Red Scout II - When Kirk is being picked up by his love interest in a Blue pickup. Very short scene, but it IS a Scout.
The screen shot of the Scout in the Star Trek movie above is courtesy of Dan Nees. You can check out his web site, and take the IHCaholic test at Cookie Dans Web Page
36 - "Steel Magnolias" - Dolly Partons husband has a sweet looking scout 800 that he rushes a pregnant woman to the hospital in at the end of the movie.(courtesy of John Langmaid)
Steel Magnolias-Dolly Partons husband has a sweet looking scout 800 that he rushes a pregnant woman to the hospital in at the end of the movie.
37 - "The Stone Killers"Seems the most Internationals in one movie should go to a Charles Bronson movie called "The Stone Killers".Seem to recall several Scout II's,Terra's, and Travelers.Had to be 2 dozen different ones in that production. (courtesy of Dennis)
38 - "Stripes" Another movie, I don't know the name, but with Bill Murray(?}, I just don't know. But they are being chased by the bad guys and the bad guys shoot a rocket at their car, an old woodie wagon customized and it misses and explodes a 1300 series again '60's pickup or flat bed. (courtesy of Rob Kasper)The movie you are unable to identify with Bill Murray in it, and where they are being chased by bad guys is "Stripes". (courtesy of Daniel Backlund)
39 - "Substitute 2" - Watched a flick on the tube called Substitute 2 a real thriller starring the unforgetable Treat Williams. He and his partner use a 72 Scout 2 all thru the show .
40 - "Sun Chasers" - Hey if anyone has seen a move call "The Sun Chasers"..It's been on HBO a few times... And stars Woody Harilson... It's really bad... It starts off really great kinda a action weird cult type flick.. and then ends up like a Disney movie.... But almost to the end there is a really sweet Scout II lifted with the top off... Great shots.. Anyway... If you see it on check it out.. (courtesy of Jeff Bade)
41 - "Superman" Late 70's or early 80's movie? It features a 1937 D-5 pickup, driven by the farm couple that finds the baby-of-steel in the wreckage of his spaceship and adopt him. Very red and very pretty.
42 - "Sweet Hostage" Stars Martin Sheen. Looks like a 73 Super Scout II.
43 - "Terminator"P.S. To those of you watching movies with Internationals in them, the cabover in Terminator that blows up Arnold Shwartznegger is an International. Just thought I would pass that along.
44 - "Thunderbolt & Lightfoot" Stars Clint Eastwood. An IH van is in it.
45 - "Titanic"Steve, Am i wrong or are those IH slope hood trucks in the movie titanic? (courtesy of Scott) Any body know ?
46 - "Trial and Error" starring Michael Richardson (Cosmo Kramer from "Seinfield" and the blond guy from "Dumb and Dumber". I will leave it up to you to find out their real names......Sorry about that......BTW....great movie, funny and shows so much of the Scout, it is crazy! about twice as much coverage or more then "Fools Rush In" (courtesy of Jim) Saw a clip of "Trial & Error" this morning and they were driving a Scout II with the top off. Hopefully it will be a better flick than some of the latest ones where the only thing of any interest was the vehicle! (courtesy of Polly)My wife bought the movie "Trial and Error" on pay per view last night. I heard her screaming and had to see what was going on. There was an 800 Scout that the stars of the movie were driving. The Scout was seen a lot in the second half of the show. One time, it even squeeled its tires on pavement. (courtesy of Scotty Hajek)
Just rented "Trial and Error". Scout-O-Plenty. The Movie's not bad either. Stars Krammer from Seinfeld.
Watched "Trial And Error" last night....a very nice "pink" (didn't look that bad) older Scout....was driven by the very nice looking female costar....it's on video now so you can check it out....
Check out Trial and Error with Jeff Daniels and Michael Richards (Kramer). It takes place out west and a decent 67 or 68 Scout 800 gets quite a bit of film time. (courtesy of Nick)
47 - "Used Cars" - Kurt Russel, Jack Warden, produced by Spielberg. One 70's travelall and one crew-cab pickup on the car lot. 200+ car chase scene with a 1970 travelall leading the way (pretty cool scene where the travelall jumps a big rise and gets about 15' off the ground!).(courtesy of John Langmaid)
48 - "The Vanishing" - I was flipping channels this weekend, went by WTBS, a movie with Kether Sutherland and Sandra Bulluck and with the stocker Jeff Bridges in something call "The Vanishing" They pull into a gas station, and there is a white scout with a green canoe on top, two scene with the scout slowly driving through the gas station. (courtesy of Scott Ray)
49 -
"Vigilante Force" from 1975. Stars Kris Kristoferson and Jan Michael Vincent. Jan's plays the main character who happens to own an IHC dealership in California. It shows many scenes from his dealership and even shows his IH equipment in the local parade. All through the Movie he drives a 75 200 4x4 with a big IH on the doors.
Was another show with Kris Kristofferson, and Jan-Micheal Vincent where Vincent's role was a International dealer, can't remember the name of the movie.I do remember Vincent driving and later destroying a nice 3/4 ton pickup. (courtesy of Dennis)
On your movie list is "Vigilante Force" Shot in 1976, it was the story of an IH dealer having problems with gangs in their town and takes justice in his own hands after they burn down his dealership. Has lots of IH equipment in the parade scene.
50 - "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?" A 1970's style Travelall plays a small but crucial role. It's towing an Airstream in one of those caravans and breaks down in a small town, whereby the "girl" gets to meet the "boy".
51 - "What the deaf man heard" In "What the deaf man heard" there's a scene where everyone's driving to a record-burning at the church, and there's a really sharp looking '65 pickup. (courtesy of John Langmaid)

2 - "Chips" Well, here I was, channel surfing again, and I come across "Chips" and it has an older blue IH pickup near the beginning, and then three, count em, three, blue IH Cabover semis, carrying some chemicals in tanker trailors.
To add to your Hollywood Scout connection, this morning on Chips (TNT) they had a light blue 1980 (?) Scout II being used for drug smuggling. It was great watching the Scout run through the streets of LA, passing cops and taking the corners. But as with all car chases the bad guys usually crash -- but not here. The guy ran it into a stack of boxes. Like that would stop Scout. But, at least we can safely say "No Scout was harmed in the filming of this episode".(Courtesy of Bryan)
3 - "Dallas"You forgot to mention the white Scout in the early episodes of Dallas. I believe it belonged to Jock (or the Ewing family) Ray Krebbs is seen driving it a few times and J.R., Bobby and Jock take it on a camping trip. (courtesy of Shana)
Hi guys, I saw an episode of Dallas on TNN and Pa & JR had got shot by hunters. The heros had got there in an IH Scout II. Anyway when Bobby and another guy went to get help it wouldn't start ! The bad guys had taken the rotor !
When they lifted the hood, the motor looked really clean, of course Bobby's 'fro was about has big as Jimi Hendricks so it was probably new. (courtesy of Andrew Thomas)
4 -
"Forces of Nature II"Spotted a Scout II in law enforcement trim on "Forces of Nature II" on TLC the other night. They were showing footage of flooding a few years ago around San Antonio, I believe. A reporter was interviewing a sheriff's deputy who's standing in front of the Scout II. All that is visible is the travel top side window, the rear of the door glass, and the top complete with red bubble gum machines. (courtesy of Jerry Muncie)
5 - "FourWheeler TV: Moab #1" I lost some digests, sorry if this is a repeat. On ESPN 2 FourWheeler TV: Moab #1 there a IH Traverer? going up Potato Salad hill? or another hill. It looses, the tailgate opens and a spare tire, cooler and other supplies fall out and roll down the hill. Hope its not a digest member. lite blue with green/black left front fender. (courtesy of Scott Ray)
6 -
"Hawaii Five 0" I was channel surfing again, and came across Hawaii Five 0, and there it was, a Scout.
7 - "I Dream of Jeanie" On one episode of "I Dream of Jeanie", when Jeanie gets mad at Major Nelson and decides to move out, she rents or borrows an IH pickup to load her belongings in. Barbara Eden Just didn't look quite right driving that old binder.
8 -
"Judge Mills Lane" In this episode of Judge Mills Lane, a Scout owner was suing a former friend, who was a body man, to fix his Scout. (STeve)
9 - "Lassie" I was channel surfing the other day, and came across the old show, Lassie. Normally, I'd just keep on surfing, but I saw an IH vehicle. So I booted up the Video program on my Mac and waited. At first I thought it was a Travelall, but when a shot of the vehicle came back on screen, I saw it was a 4 door pickup. (STeve)
10 -
"MacGyver" - I was flipping back and forth between Letterman and MacGyver Monday night, and MacGyver had an IH pickup on it. I don't know what episode it was, but the p-up was being driven by the bad guys (poachers). MacGyver disabled it when he pulled the distributer cap off and took it with him. The truck was green and 4x4. (courtesy of Dan Felix)
11 - "Magnum PI" - one where Higgins plays two roles, both his normal one and as a relation who's a texas rancher. Bad guys blow up the ranchers perfect looking white 70's pickup.(courtesy of John Langmaid)
12 - "Millenium" - Last Friday I watched "Millennium" on FOX and spotted a topless '73(?) Scout II. The episode started off with with a tired couple in a motorhome stopping on the edge of a small town for the night. A man pulls up in the SII and asks them to pull forward a few feet into the town limits. They reluctantly comply and are soon killed by a pack of dogs. Frank Black arrives in town to figure things out and the SII is seen once or twice in the background. (courtesy of Scotty Hajek)
I saw the same Millenium episode (one of two that I have watched) and I had the darnedest time convincing other people that that was a Scout. Saw another Scout in the movie Lost World. One of the characters hid from a pack of velociraptors in it. Only good thing about that flick ;) (courtesy of DurangoMan)

10 - "Northern Exposure" Of course Northern Exposure almost always had a Scout in every episode. Holling owned one, and Leonard (the shaman) had a Travellall. I might of missed it, but Burt drove one in Deliverence. Great page. (courtesy of Heffelump)
13 - "Pretender"Very weird. I'm sitting here reading the latest digest and I have the Pretender on TV in the background. I'm reading the sighting of a Scout on This Old House and I look up and all the main characters are jumping in a Scout.
14 - "Profiler" Hey there. You missed one! 8) Two weeks ago on Profiler. They are trying to stop a mad bomber...there is a topless primer gray Scout driven by the manager of the Houston Natural gas plant at high speed to try and stop the guy before Houston is turned into a giant barbeque grill. 8) (courtesy of IHcSctGuy)
15 - "This Old House"For those of you who track such items: I recorded today's episode of "This Old House" on PBS as I do most Saturdays. I'm watching the restoration of a church that is being converted to a home in San Francisco no less. I beleive they started this last December and Completed it in March or so. In any case, in today's episode, the homeowner shows up and she is a little distraught because the wallboard for her interior has been delivered and it is stacked in the street with clear plastic over it. It's raining of course, as El Nino is still reminding us frail, self centered humans that nature reigns supreme. The homeowner expresses her dismay that the wallboard is sitting outside and Steve Thomas assures her that the plastic will keep it dry and there is no other place to put it. So they proceed into the building. And as they do, what shold be parked right in front but a blue Scout with white traveltop. Looks like it even
had white ralleye stripes, but I'm not certain. I'd bet $50 it belongs to one of the various construction workers that were toiling on this project.
So there you have it. "SCOUT SIGHTED ON THIS OLD HOUSE". Anyone want to get together and approach PBS about doing a series called "This Old Scout" or perhaps for a wider audience, "This Old IH"? (courtesy of Tom Harais)
Sure Tom, as long as they use MY Scout for their project Scout !
16 - "Tracy Ullman" There is an episode of the Tracy Ullman show where she does a skit sitting on the tailgate of an early Scout (80 or 800). That's all I can remember cause I was so busy scanning the Scout trying to figure out which one it was. (courtesy of Gary Burch)
17 - "Wings" During the opening credits of the early episodes, is a shot of the airport and parking lot, with the back half of a Scout II in plain view. Scout side windows are uniquely shaped.

"Star Wars (KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut) ad"
2 - "American Express ad" Ok, maybe not on the silver screen, it just sounded good. I saw a recent American Express ad on TV with a scout in it. Easy to tell the SSII. Back windows visible, black grill, all that. Any ways, it's rallying through some dirt road at high speed, and catching air off of some rises in the road. Great shot. The American Express logo is "Do More, Go Farther." Coincident? I THINK NOT!! (courtesy of Nick Cuskey)
When I flipped on the T.V. yesterday evening I noticed that the American
Express commercial playing did not look familiar. Paying more attention than
usual (usually none to commercials) I noticed the commercial ended with a
topless Scout II driving across a grassy field. I had never seen it before
yesterday. Well I am glad they really learned what you schould never leave
home without... (courtesy of David Nuenke)
3 - "BMW ad" Don't overlook the BMW ad with the 1950 L-Series stake bed running away down the hill.
4 & 5 - "Unruly" & "Old Spice"Two that I *think* may have been Scouts (but I'm not sure) were TV ads: one for a perfume called "Unruly" and one for "Old Spice" (I think, may have been Lee Jeans - guy drives up to desert gas/cafe, takes off shirt, attractive dishwasher girl looks out, they drive off, maybe?) Anyway, if you *have* seen either one of those and could possibly identify the year/make/model of either of those, I would greatly appreciate it, so I know what versions to keep my eyes open when looking for one to purchase - those were beautiful trucks! The unruly and old spice commercials are not Scouts, I definitely saw
the grill and badge on the unruly. (courtesy of Rob Kasper)

"The Merry Pranksters in The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test"The Merry Pranksters in The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolf drove a 1939 IH bus arond the country. The book was about Ken Kesey and his followers driving the bus and partying during the 60s.
5 - "The Stand"In the Steven King book "The Stand" There are several references
to scouts one of the main characters drove an orange one and later
someone uses one to cross the rockies. There might be more that I can't
remember. (courtesy of James Lunsford)
6 - "Without Remorse"
Tom Clancy's "Without Remorse". John Kelly (aka Mr. Clark in some of Clancy's other books) drives an unidentified Scout that, among other things, enables him to pick up girls; evade some bad guys that are chasing him (some pretty good, if vague descriptions of a Binder's capabilities); and ultimately saves his life by absorbing most of a shotgun blast aimed at the back of his head. (courtesy of Walt)
I have an addition for you: in "Without Remorse" by John Clancy, the main character drives a Scout, although I don't know if it's an 80/800 or II. I do know that at one point he's trying to escape a bunch of thugs (pimps?) who are driving a Hemi-powered hot-rod of some sort, and I think he mentions that the Scout is running a 4 popper. You can easily guess how that came out. (courtesy of Joe)
I seem to recall that the protagonist in Tom Clancy's "Without Remorse"(I think?) drives a mid 60's scout. I'm not sure if he describes it in a whole lot of detail, but the scout has a major role in a few chases and a shooting incident, if I recall. (courtesy of Mike Ngkordosky)
"LLBean - Spring 99" Well, the Spring 99 LLBean catalogue came today, and I had to find the Scout that people on the IHC Digest had been talking about recently. I found two of them. The left picture is of the one on page 168 and the right one was found on page 7. I scanned them for your viewing pleasue. Enjoy ! (STeve)

"SKOAL ad" December 1998 FourWheeler Magazine, pps. 50 and 51 Shows a Skoal ad with a
Scout II in it. To the untrained eye it appears that there are two guys
trying to *push* the Scout out of a mudpuddle when in reality the Scout is
*backing itself* out of the mudpuddle. It's just that the Scout had to be
*held-back* from coming out of the mudhole too fast so they could take the
picture.
2 - "Standing outside the
fire" The name of the Garth Brooks video with the Travelall is "Standing outside the fire". (courtesy of Dan)
Watching these lame sitcoms on TV at night always has me looking for a
Scout or IH pickup. I guess I must have been really squinting hard and
thought it was just wishful thinking the first time, but now I am sure. On the
NBC show "Friends" the Refrigerator in the girls apartment has International
Harvester in script across the middle of it. The teaser for tonights show ,
showed it pretty plain, so it should be noticable tonight. (courtesy of Scotty Hajek)

Magazine Article
Another "sighting," if you will, is in the new (January '99) issue of
American Hunter. Page 56 there is a story of a couple of guys going out
pheasant hunting in SD. The 2nd paragraph mentions the author's hunting
buddy's "International Travel-All". Misspells Travellall, but hey, it is
mentioned. Twice more I think. (courtesy of Dan Felix)

Musical Bands
I was perusing my new Encyclopedia of Country Music, and discovered that Neil
Young was in a band called the International Harvesters for a little while in
the sixties! (courtesy of Rob Hughes)
