What is MCC, anyway?
MCC is not a gay church. It is a Christian church which does not
discriminate against gays, lesbians, or other sexual minorities.
Where did it come from?
In 1968 a young minister named Troy Perry was removed
from his pulpit and excommunicated from his church when he was found to be
gay. He felt this was unfair, that all people who consider themselves
Christians should have the opportunity to worship God. He later founded the
Metropolitan Community Church in Los Angeles.
As others heard of this church, they thought it was a very good idea. Soon
other Metropolitan Community Churchess were organized in many other cities,
including Salt Lake City (Jan 7, 1972),
Ogden,
Logan and
Boise.
These local churches are now members of The Universal Fellowship of
Metropolitan Community Churches
(UFMCC).
Does MCC consider itself to be the true church?
No. It is A true church. The Christian church consists of Christ's
people and there are many different organizations which serve the
needs of different groups of people. MCC is one part of that church.
But what does the Bible say about
homosexuality?
