Deer, birds, rabbits, even a frog gather in humble and silent witness to the unity and harmony of the creation. And over all, the glorious vault of the heavens unfolds another glistening morning."

At Middle Age, We Believe that ...
At middle age, we still have things to learn. These we do know: Have a seat, relax, and read this slowly. It kind of sums it up:
We believe that we don't have to change friends if we understand that friends change.
We believe that no matter how good our friends are, they're going to hurt us every once in a while, and we must forgive them for that.
We believe that true friendship continues to grow, even over the longest distance. Same goes for true love.
We believe that we can do something in an instant that will give us heartache for life.
We believe that it's taking us a long time to become the persons we want to be.
We believe that we should always leave loved ones with loving words. It may be the last time we see them.
We believe that we can keep going long after we can't.
We believe that we are responsible for what we do, no matter how we feel.
We believe that either we control our attitude or it controls us.
We believe that regardless of how hot and steamy a relationship is at first, the passion fades, and there had better be something else to take its place.
We believe that heroes are the people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences.
We believe that money is a lousy way to keep score.
We believe that our best friends and we can do anything or nothing and have the best time.
We believe that sometimes the people we expect to kick us when we're down, will be the ones to help us get back up.
We believe that sometimes when we’re angry we have the right to be angry, but that doesn't give us the right to be cruel.
We believe that just because someone doesn't love us the way we want them to doesn't mean they don't love us with all they have.
We believe that maturity has more to do with what types of experiences we've had and what we've learned from them and less to do with how many birthdays we've celebrated.
We believe that it isn't always enough to be forgiven by others. Sometimes we have to learn to forgive ourselves.
We believe that no matter how bad our hearts are broken, the world doesn't stop for our grief.
We believe that our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we are responsible for whom we become.
We believe that just because two people argue, it doesn't mean they don't love each other. And, just because they don't argue, it doesn't mean they do.
We believe that we shouldn't be so eager to find out a secret. It could change our lives forever.
We believe that two people can look at the exact same thing and see something totally different.
We believe that our lives can be changed in a matter of hours by people who don't even know us.
We believe that even when we think we have no more to give, when a friend cries out to us, we will find the strength to help.
We believe that credentials on the wall do not make us decent human beings.
We believe that the people we care about most in life are taken from us too soon.
We believe that we should introduce this to the people in whom we believe. We just did to our classmates and friends of our class.

Webster's New Millennium Dictionary The Washington Post's Style Invitational asked readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter, and supply a new definition. Some recent winners: * Dopeler Effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly. Giraffiti: Vandalism spray painted very, very high. Glibido: All talk and no action. Hipatitis: Terminal coolness. Ignoranus: A person who's both stupid and an asshole. (The pick of the litterature.) Inoculatte: To take coffee intravenously when you are running late. Intaxication: Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realize it was your money to start with. Karmageddon: It's like, when everybody is sending off all these really bad vibes, right? And then, like, the Earth explodes and it's like, a serious bummer. Osteopornosis: A degenerate disease. (This one got extra credit!) Reintarnation: Coming back to life as a hillbilly. Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who doesn't get it. * Compliments of Barry Thomas Alcock (friend of Ken Thorbahn and Doug Palmer) from The Washington Post

Forest Fire © John McColgan. Bitterroot National Forest, Montana, 08/06/2000, by John McColgan, a fire behavior analyst from Fairbanks, Alaska, with a digital camera. Brought to our attention by Classmate Tim Williams, residing in Missouri. Class of 1968's Marsha Wikle was summoned by a fire dispatcher on Sunday, 09/17/2000, in Athens, Ohio, to help fight a forest fire in Texas the next day. She missed the reunion on 07/06/2002, which she was going to attend with her brother, Jeff, because she was asked to help in New Mexico. This dramatic portrait by Mother Nature makes us mindful that some friends of our class are part of the story within headline news.

Did you pay attention to Mr. Obee in physics class when he explained how a water closet and bowl work together during the chapter about fluid dynamics? Our classmate, John Liske, is the Oak Harbor, Ohio, Village Administrator and former superintendent of the O. H. water reclamation plant (who, avocationally, wrote an abridged history of O. H. for the village web site). He and other classmates have a background in water reclamation. We don't need to be leaking unnecessarily from our water closets, right?
