One of the main features that is preffered for you to have to see this web site is the ablity of your computer to display the information that you will be recieving in Russian, using the russian fonts. This will be useful not only on this Web site, but on other russian-language home pages as well. If you are using Windows 95 or Windows 98 there is a good chance that you are already able to see the information in russian, and in this case you will not have any problem. If that is so, then you should be able to read the cyrillic text on right side of the screen, and you are ready to proceede and enjoy the rest of this page! However, if all you see on the right side of the screen are the weird-looking characters then follow these few steps below to "teach" your computer to "speak russian": |

In most cases, Windows 95, Windows NT, and Windows 98 users can solve the problem very easiely. Browsers like Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator support several different encoding schemes - that is they can display the Web pages in different languages. By selecting the appropriate encoding scheme from the drop-down menu, the user is able to change the language that is being displayed on the site. Russian language Web pages use one of the three character sets: Cyrillic KOI8-R, Cyrillic ISO-8859-5 or Cyrillic WIN-1251. Do the following to select the propper encoding:
If changing the encoding in the browser did not do the trick, then most likely your coputer lacks russian fonts. There are two ways that you can obtain them: 1) Download "stand-alone" cyrillic fonts 2) Download the Microsoft lang.exe file to install the complete Multilingual support for your Windows system. Downloading "Stand-Alone" Fonts: When you download the "stand-alone" fonts, the installation procedure is somewhat more complicated then the installation of the lang.exe, even thought it requires less steps. Below are the examples of the available cyrillic fonts for download: The files come in the .ZIP format, that is you need some kind of "unzipping" utility to be able to extract them. You can use PKUNZIP or WinZIP programs. They are available for download from CNET's www.download.com! Downloading lang.exe: Microsoft's lang.exe is a self extracting file that contains the components for the installation of the Multilingual support for your Windows 95 (or higher) operating system. You need to download lang.exe into a separate directory, where the extracted components will not intermix with other files. Click HERE to download lang.exe! |

| STEP THREE: Installing Cyrillic Fonts and Lang.exe! |
|
After the necessary files have have been downloaded, you are ready to procede with the installation procedures. Generally, it is a good practice to copy the "ZIPped" and self-extracting files into a separate directory - TEMP, for example. The reason for this is that when the files will be extracted it will be much easier to locate them in a smaller pool, rather then in a directory with huge ammounts of files. I would also recommend making a separate sub-directory for the Lang.exe file, since it contains a very large number of components and it might be very hard to collect them all together after they have been extracted.

| Installing Lang.exe: |
|
Lang.exe is a self-extracting file which components are necessary to install the Multilanguage support for Windows 95 and up. If you have a name-brand computer that came with Windows 95 or WIndows 98 at the time of purchase, there is a very good chance that Multilanguage support is already installed on your coputer and just needs to be properly configured. You can check it by going to CONTROL PANEL, selecting ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS, click WINDOWS SETUP and making sure that there is a check by the Multilanguage Support icon. Enabling the Multilanguage Support: If the checkmark is there, all you have to do is double click on the KEBOARD icon in the CONTROL PANEL, select LANGUAGE and add languages by clicking the Add... button. Right below the language selection window there are options that you can set for switching between the languages that are now available on your computer. Click the Key-Stroke combination that you would like to use to go back and forth between the language selections. If you have support for more than one language installed on your computer, a little indicator will appear in the lower right corner of your windows screen. You can also switch between the languages by clicking on the indicator and selecting the necessary language. You can test out if what you just did works by starting one of your word processing applications (prefferably Microsoft-based), switching the language and start typing. If what you type appears correct - you are done! On the other hand, if you do not have Multilanguage Support already installed on your system, follow the following steps to install it:
1. Extract the Lang.exe components into a separate directory where it will not intermix with other files |
