It was an awesome day yesterday (10/24/05) - Irish Midnight (mickey) became the 2005 San Jacinto Horse Show Association Junior Adult Grand Champion in fences three feet and over!

It was an all Thoroughbred competition (including a rider from the A&M team) and as usual Mickey (a breeding stock Paint) was at least a hand shorter than anyone else in the ring. Chelsie rode him to a record FOUR first places in five classes, earning the Grand Champion title for the show and season.

For my little rescue horse, this is a delight indeed! I want to thank all of you that got Mickey down this wonderful road.

Sunscape Equine Rescue is a 501c3 nonprofit that specializes in finding appropriate homes for horses. Some horses need to be rehabilitated or retrained first, some come in with no problems, just in need of a new home. Our goal is not just to adopt them out, but to find a home in which they will really excel. All homes must qualify and have at least a workable amount of horse experience, but we go beyond that, making sure that the adopter can completely handle the horse they want and have the right personality for the horse. We are known for matching horses with suitable people. We feel it is the best way to insure a good future for the horse and adopter. We have also done some small animal rescue when we could. Educating the public about animal care and the importance of altering pets is very important to us as well.

People are always amazed at the quality of horses that many times end up in rescue, most of them are not actually abused, some are neglected and look great again within a short time, many just need new homes because an owner could not keep them for some reason. Rescues get a variety of horses, from Quarter Horses, Appaloosas and Welch ponies to warmbloods and drafts. Other breeds we have helped to find homes for include National Show Horse, Morgan, Arabian, Tennessee Walker, Missourri Fox Trotter, Thoroughbred, Paint, Miniature horse and POA. We have adopted out horses that now compete in barrel racing, roping, dressage, jumping, eventing, hunter and also have placed trail, pleasure and lesson horses. Of course some are companion only horses, but that is not the norm. Take a look and see if what we have might suit your needs. Not only are rescues typically more truthful to the buyer or adopter in many cases.....but you are helping a good cause by supporting them. Ask us for references, we will gladly supply them.

*We have had to sell our main facility and are now working with foster homes only. This means we can take less horses. We need more foster homes in the greater Alvin area. Must be very experienced horsepeople with at least one extra stall and pasture. Please contact me for details. Thank you.
