Donating Your Horse

These are just a few of the horses that owners have trusted us to find new homes for. We are a 501c3 nonprofit and gladly give a receipt for your tax deduction. Excellent references available. We never sell to auction, for any reason. We want all of our horses to have great homes.

This nice gelding was donated because his owner had problems handling him. With some work and a more assertive handler, he is doing very well.

Sunscape Equine Rescue, Inc. accepts donated horses on a case by case basis. We also give a receipt for your taxes, as we are a 501c3 nonprofit. We pride ourselves and are best known for finding the best home possible for the horse. Sometimes we have spent up to a year finding that home, and we have turned away many homes that were not appropriate, sometimes just because the horse and rider were not compatible. Compatibility is something too often overlooked, and it can put the horse and owner into a bad situation. We have taken in all different types of horses, including ponies and all different breeds, even warmbloods. We have retrained many horses and given them a future. (English and western) If you are in a situation where you must give your horse up for any reason, please consider this option. Any rescue you are considering donating to should be checked out as many rescues do not have the same standard of care or are not as dilligent about finding a suitable home for their horses as others.
* If the horse is usable and ridable there is no fee. Any adoption fee we collect will cover or help cover our costs and any leftover will help other rescue horses that we are supporting or that need to be helped. If the horse is not adoptable or has serious health or soundness problems, a fee will be charged to help cover the costs involved in maintaining and placing the horse (unadoptable horses taken on a case by case basis, depending on room available), as these horses are sometimes difficult or impossible to place. SER has the right to refuse horses that we feel we cannot place or that are dangerous. (Not just training related.)
A horse does not have to be neglected or have problems to be donated. Some people donate horses either for the tax deduction or so that time can be taken to find a good home. It not only helps the owner and the horse, but helps raise some much needed money for the rescue.
