My Workshop

I know that this is my woodworking page, but my shop is much more than a wood shop.

I'm the guy everyone accuses of being a pack-rat. But, I am also the guy everyone comes to see when they can't find a part or tool. Or, they need a piece of 1/4" thick oak, mahogany, or whatever, but they don't need enough where a lumber yard would want bother.

Leo will have that, he has everything.

Well, I don't have everything, but If I don't have it, you probably don't need it anyway.

My workshop is a 16X32 (too small) heated garage. I think there was a car in it once just after I built it. but that was the last time.

My workshop is chuck filled with tools and building materials in both wood and metal.

Some of my tools

All right, I admit it, I'm a tool junkie.

Here are some of the larger ones.

  • 1/2" floor drill press
  • 10" radial arm saw
  • 10" table saw
  • 14" band saw
  • 10" thickness planner
  • 16" scroll saw
  • 6" belt disk sander
  • router shaper
  • metal cutting bandsaw
  • arc welder
  • mig welder
  • 2 hp dust collection system

Of course, I have collected more smaller hand tools than I could ever list here.

Current projects

I don't really have a major project in the works right now.

I have been busy building small wood items for resale in a gift and craft shop in which I have rented some space.

These items are of pine (my favorite wood). They are mostly country and Shaker. Pieces are items such as doll cradles, shelves, bookcases and various wall decorations.

Items are mostly duplicates of one night projects that I used in a woodworking class that I taught to children aged 8 to 16.

I had to develop patterns and templates for all these projects, so they are easy for me to duplicate.

Some of my past projects

  • The last major project that I built was my wood homebuilt ultralight aircraft.
  • Other projects include a 1980 Chevrolet Monza that my son and I built as a father son project when he turned 16. We started with no less than 3 Monzas and massaged them together until we wound up with a bright red sportster powered by a 350 small block chevy. Transmission is a turbo 350 modified to stiffen shift characteristics. The project involved extensive body work to repair rusted areas. Eric has since driven his Monza from coast to coast. Eric's car is now in storage, as he is as much a pack-rat as his dad.
