Chess Sets from Mexico and Peru
Friends of mine, Gail Homan and
her husband Jim, bought this set for me in Mexico City. They also helped build a church
for missionaries while they were there.
This is the first chess set my wife bought me a few
years after we were married, 29 years ago. It was either made near the border of Mexico
and the US, or in China or Japan. I'm not sure on this one. It was purchased from a sales
catalog before the days of internet buying.
The next few sets I purchased in Tijuana, Mexico around 1985.
This set I found at a garage sale in Renton Wash. USA for $5.00. I believe it was made somewhere around Arizona or New Mexico. It features Azteca styleing.
Peru This Peruian set was given to me by Jim and Karen Vandyke for Christmas 1996.
Purchased at the Seattle Center's under ground mall. Remember the
bubble-ater elevator?
