China Made In japan, given to me by my foster son and
his wife Yugoslavia
Jim and Karen (mentioned above) bought this set in
Germany while they were stationed there with Uncle Sam, and gave it to me on
their return around 1983. Russian
The Maryhill
Museum on the Columbia River in Washington State USA, has the largest and
most incredible collection of chess sets I have ever seen ! . This is one of
only two sets they imported and sold there at the museum, in 1994. Greece
Paul Hoover, one of my best friends (howbeit a
lousy Triopoly player !) brought this set above, and the meerschaum set below, back
with him from a trip he took to Greece and Turkey (on business).
Turkey
India
Steve and Francine Chick, who at the time were
working with Missionaries in India, bought this set there and gave it to
me. Kenya This Kenya Africa set was bought right here in the good ol'
USA at the Costco Co.
Romaina This was one of the best buys on Ebay on line auction.
I actually got it from a guy IN ROMAINA! For $25.00 US. This set has great character.
Notice the brass wire and frame work that raises the board up when you open it, and lowers
it while stagering the pieces so they don't hit each other, when it closes. Too Cool!
Poland About 1987 or so, My Pastor, Darrel Stott, his wife Debbie and
several other Pastors went to Poland for a working holliday. (They smuggled several hundred
Bibles in with them!) Darrel borrowed my camera to use while he was there.
As a "Thank You", he bought me this set there and hand carried it all the way back.
Keep in mind that Poland was still occupied by USSR at that time! |
