Seldom Seen Slim, a rare photo by George Appleton, Las Vegas Mensa's most seldom seen member.
As George tells it, he and his wife were resting in a small ghost town when a station wagon pulled in. A young boy left the vehicle, ran through a broken down house and exited with a chewed up pack of playing cards. After showing his dad his great find, the family loaded up and headed for the next 'attraction' on their itiniary.
George had noticed an old timer sitting against a building further down the street. He dug through his gear to locate a deck of cards that he kept for quiet nights in the desert. Taking the cards to the old boy, George asked if he would mind giving them to who ever lived in the house. Slim replied that it was his house, and he appreciated the cards.
The friendship between the two lasted for years and George has enough Seldom Seen Slim stories to write a book.
