Stanley Woolston, Artist

"I believe that the essence of good art is learning how to observe, how to compose and how to draw the basic subject. With this essential foundation you can expand on your original idea, infuse the work with your individual style and carry it through to completion. I feel the greatest asset to any artist, whether amateur or professional, is an ability to keep hold of that initial enthusiasm and see it transformed into a visual experience."

Stan Woolston began his career as an Antique Dealer and, with his father, was holder of the Royal Warrant in Cambridge. With access to many of the country's finest art and furniture collections in his early years, Stan developed a passionate interest in painting and drawing and in the mid-1980s he decided to devote himself to art, turning professional and working to commission as well as for exhibitions and galleries.

Since then, Stan's reputation has grown and his works are sold internationally. His more prominent commissions have included a series of architectural drawings for the archives of the Grosvenor Estates, over four hundred architectural watercolour drawings of Dutch merchant's houses for the Okura hotel in Amsterdam as well as numerous works for corporate city clients.

During the early 1990s, Stan ran successful, residential Country House Painting Holidays from his home in south west France. Now based in the Cotswolds, near picturesque Chipping Campden, he continues to exhibit both in England and abroad. Private tuition is available, in all mediums, by arrangement. Stan's current work is predominantly floral, his ideas and compositions drawn from Monet's garden at Giverny, the nearby estates of Hidcote and Kiftsgate, as well as from his own inspirational garden. In his most recent paintings he had been working predominantly in oil and pastel although his fine architectural drawings are still constantly in demand.

The paintings Stan produces are both delicate and striking. They demonstrate an extraordinary talent and gifted craftsmanship; at times loose and impressionist and at others bold, sharp and realistic. Whatever their style or medium, the finished paintings are not only much sought after and affordable but also unfailingly beautiful.
