TRAVELS: SAN JOSE It's 5:30 on Thursday morning. The wind chimes that Emmett and Yuta gave me are excitedly clattering in the warm windy morning outside. After a three hour drive to the airport, and a flight across the country I'll be joining many of you for what promises to be a great weekend seminar. Out of 5000 or so Stick instruments, we'll be more than 50 players, but only around 1%. That seems amazing to me, that so many could make up such a small percentage. I'm looking forward to celebrating The Stick with friends from all over Europe and North America. Thanks to Bob for a hurculean organizing effort, and to all the folks who are attending for making it possible. Special thanks to Emmett and Yuta and all the other folks at Stick Enterprises, for raising us up from excited newbies to full-fledged Stick players. What you've started will go on for many more decades, perhaps centuries. For almost 30 years you've poured yourselves into one idea - to spread the opportunity for others to experience the joy of making music the way Emmett started making it. I sometimes have to remind myself that you could have just kept The Stick to yourselves, and focused on making a career for Emmett as an artist with a wonderful new invention, but that's not the kind of people you are. Your love for what you do and your friendship to us as individuals and as a community is as great a joy for me as picking up my instrument.

From: timothykado@msn.com Subject: Notes in the Free Hands Stick diagram Date: Thu, Nov 6, 2003 Sticknews, My name is Tim a Stick player from Oregon and was just curious about something on the first page of the free hands book with the diagram of the neck of the Stick, there are notes by letter on the melody side shown all the way down to the 25th fret and why on the bass side they are only shown to the 10th fret?. Tim -- Response from Greg: Hi Tim, I'm not sure. I've certainly seen a lot of players play way above that spot, including Emmett. It's easy enough to extend the diagram if you want, and write in the rest of the notes in the sequence. Perhaps he'll send in a response to your question. He has an amazing memory, and if there were a reason for doing it, I'm sure he'd remember.

TAPPING TECHNIQUES (Lessons, anyone?)
STICK EVENTS From: cubby@ix.netcom.com Subject: Seminar update (San Jose) Hello
There are now 47 sign ups. Thanks. Due to the amount of students I have to limit the full schedule signups to 52. The main reason is that I want every student already signed up to get 2 sessions with no more than 2 other students as promised. This leaves 5 slots left. Also, I have been asked by a few people about Saturday Sunday only. I have decided to add two other options for people who either canot make all 3 days or if all the full schedule spots are gone. You can attend a Saturday, Sunday with classes and clinics. You would not be scheduled for the semi private session, but would have classes and the clinics. The fee is $200 The other option is the 4 hour teacher clinic on Saturday will be open to anyone who wishes to attend only that part. The fee is $60. On Saturday we will hold a brief photo shoot. Proabably at 3:00. Anyone wishing to show up with their Stick, even if you are not part of the seminar can be part of the
"how many Stick players will fit into a phone booth" photo. Ok, we will
shoot it without the phone booth, or get a real BIG phone booth!
Thanks again for everyone coming out. It will be a blast. (And I hope the "blast" is not my head exploding from coordinating such an event) Actually everybody has been very helpful. After this I am going to go back to being a
Stick player.
