St Perran's Group

St Perran's Scout Group was first registered in November 1956

    St Perran's has its own Scout hall situated in the Holbeck area of Barrow-In-Furness in  Cumbria
(The hall may be used by others providing a minimum donation is made to the Group)

St Perran is a collective term for those acting with the beliefs of St Piran a (Cornish) Mining Saint, thought to be a hermit circa 480, in Padstow Cornwall. The town of Perranporth preserves his name. For more information see .  http://www.britannia.com

The Group is so named, as is the church, because the miners brought into the mineral rich areas of Furness were originally Cornish Tin miners. Perran's motto is believed to be "Perenne Sub Polo Nihil". that is "There is nothing permanent under Heaven"

The history of the Church is believed to be;

  • 1874 St Perran's temporary building
  • 1876 Partially Closed
  • 1884 Became part of the local School
  • 1880 Church becomes the army Mission
  • 1893 Becomes a satellite of St Lukes in Barrow.
