Katie was our
foundation bitch, and provided the foundation for others as well. One of
the sweetest dogs I've ever known, she ruled the house for more than a decade
with her gentle manner. Affectionately known as "the beer keg with legs"
she possessed substance which is rarely seen in bitches today, and a smooth,
effortless movement. She detested the show ring from birth, and was consequently
shown only occasionally, earning her first major under breeder-judge Connie
Howard as a puppy, and finishing at the tender age of 7 1/2. Her get comprised
the 1990 National Specialty winning Stud dog entry and BOS in Sweeps. She
is the dam of the first liver bitch to ever qualify for the HOF, when Melody
Daniels incomparable "Waylynn" became eligible in 1996. Her other daughter
"Robin" from the same litter finished with 4 majors at the tender age of
11 months, in ten shows, and made the final cut in BOB at the Georgia Specialty.
She passed on her wonderful movement, strength of bone and superb temperament
to her offspring. Katie passed away at just over 11 years old and is still
greatly missed.
