EXCITEMENT

From whence cometh excitement?
Most would say "from something exciting".
But from out of what depths,
out of what labyrinth,
does excitement arise?

Just as our elbow has a "funnybone",
our innards have an "excitabone",
which, when touched and activated,
might well cause hairs to stand on end,
goosebumps to pop out,
and myriad ideas may
rise and fall in the intellect,
which, if not prompting action,
may at least arouse excitement.

EXCITEMENT

A funny feeling
in the pit of my stomach
grows.
An electric tremor
spreads.
Neurons charge.
Circuits hum and throb
with energy.
Toes and fingertips
tingle.
Eyes sparkle.
Skin's taut,
shivering with tension.
Anticipations explode!
System overload!

FISH FOOD

A handful of little brown pellets
didn't look like all that much to me.
But it must have been fish gourmet
the way they carried on.
Gaping mouths in varying shapes
from round to oval open wide
for that tiny morsel,
fins flapping as they jockey for position
in front of the little boy
something less than two.
His brown eyes were lit with excitement
as he threw the food.
He clapped with delight
when a feisty fish
made a daring leap in the air,
snatching the tidbit
from less adventurous mouths.

THE FORBIDDEN

The forbidden fascinates,
titillates, excites,
ignites a burning desire.
A hundred and thirty
in my shade, baby.
Hell-bent for adventure,
it's bound to get hot.
Don't is an aphrodisiac!
A siren's call
to slip out of the comfortable
and make a few waves!!

EXCITEMENT

Excitement gives a running start
to quickened pulse and pumping heart
that makes a healthy body thrive
and tells it that it is alive.

Some get it jumping from a plane
or speeding in the passing lane.
or even placing a large bet
at black jack tables or roulette.

The field goal try, seconds to go;
Still five more laps, fuel running low;
two out, two down and two men on;
The crack and going, going, gone.

So many ways to get a thrill.
For me there's one excites me still,
'though I've grown old, nevertheless,
a touch or feel or fond caress.

Excitement

I wanted to arrive early
but the traffic was terrible.
I am tense,
nervous
excited.
Finally after finding
a place to park
I realize
I have no coins
for the meter.

I hear the plane
descending.

Hurriedly
I search
through the seats
of my old chevy
for a few cents.
There are always coins everywhere,
except when they are needed.

Ah success
in the form of three quarters.

I hear the plane touching the runway.

Can't get the money
in the damn meter..
jammed or something, damn, damn, damn.

Chancing a citation
I race toward the entrance.
Just before I reach the door
I stop
I want to wear calm.

I draw in my breath,
hold it,
then exhale.

"Steady, steady,"
I tell myself..
"Ok.. Ready."

Hundreds of people
are in the room.

I scan the crowd.
which suddenly
becomes
invisible.

I see you.

NOT SOMETHING THEY CAN SELL

Excitement comes in many forms
Excited means so many things
Perhaps with a glow your face is adorned
And people can hear the song your heart sings

Excitement can come from the inside out
Or perhaps excited by touch from without that flows in
But I know in my life every excitement without doubt
Is excited more since the day our love did begin

From the day to day things that we know so well
To the love that we make most every night
The excitement in my heart is not something they can sell
It comes from you and the way you make my world bright

EXCITEMENT?

(Methodist Hospital, Houston, Texas)

I looked out my window
and I could see
the Superbowl!

The Goodyear Blimp
was flying so low
I felt I could
reach out and touch it.

People were arriving
by the score.
They were driving

and walking, in a hurry,
to get to the GAME.
I was watching it all,
not feeling my pain.

There was cheering and yelling,
the usual hoop-la.
I began to wonder,
would they ever play ball?

When the game
finally began,
the scene from my window
was not as I planned.

The crowd soon grew quiet.
There wasn't much score.
As I watched from my window,
The Super Bowl became a bore
.

An Exciting Life

Often I think of the many things
That have happened over the years.
Most have given me much happiness,
But some have brought on tears.

Mingled in with those times,
Whether they were of joy or tears,
Was the element of excitement
Which did not allay my fears.

I'll not forget how excited
I was in hearing any news
That brought to me good fortune
And chased away my blues.

I have learned that it is up to me
To experience the excitement in life,
So I try to appreciate most moments,
Be they of goodness or strife.

Anticipation

Exhilaration
animation of each coming expectation.

Fascination
gratification of coming titillation.

Imagination

Determination
hesitation towards procrastination.
