A NEW YEAR WISH
©almezzina 12/26/02

The New Year coming, moving fast
to push this old one to the past.
It brings with it the same forecast
of joy and peace, just like the last.

The promises and the good cheer,
we’ve seen and heard year after year,
as timeless records have made clear
too soon, once more, will disappear.

The green–eyed monsters have a need
to satisfy a growing greed.
All good intention and good deed
devoured by a spreading breed

This year like all years we will still
wish peace to all men of good will;
but pray the monsters have their fill
of one another and self-kill.

After-Christmas Thoughts

Another Christmas has come and gone.
More memories now have been added on.
Each Christmas I have felt more blessed
As I on my many laurels rest.

Though I've changed in some ways,
I still celebrate the holidays.
I may not play as active a part,
But Christmas is still there in my heart.

Christmas now seems to come around so fast.
It did not seem to be that way in the past.
I remember, as a child, it seemed to take forever
And, sometimes, I feared that it would never.

Now here I am in the autumn of my years,
A life that's brought happiness, but also tears.
I'm grateful for the many Christmases I've had.
If I have many more, then I shall be glad.

FOR THIS

For this I pray dear Lord give me
The wisdom to see this year through
And then guide me steadfastly into the new
For this I pray dear Lord let it be

On my knees I ask that my task
Will not be more than I can bear
So my loved ones burdens I can share
No matter the weight, from first to last

My soul in your hands please give me peace
Though at present peace be rare
Protect and guide us to be fair
And may we find happiness within reach

For this I pray dear Lord let it be.
